If the buttons on the seat were faulty, none of the other mirror or seat memory functions would work.

Only the M (memory) button plays up. 1,2,3 buttons are fine.

My thinking, albeit small minded thinking, is... If the memory can't see the drivers door mirror position, it can't record and reproduce its position.

But i see your point.

You are correct, its likely it can't see the feedback from the mirror.  You've proved its not the button ;)

Loom swap then. Sigh...

Thinking aloud, there is an easy way to test it is loom if you remove loom from old door ( even if you cant shut the door in this state) ;) - just ensure the airbag sensor is plugged in when switching ignition on.

Other things, check door loom pins aren't bent (you have a great gadget for that  :-X), maybe try to clean those pins up with a needle or something...
