well i only have four years till retirement so may just work a couple days a week for now then make a decision

Shh*(t happens - but we survive -- so far redundant 6 times - left of own accord 3 times , redundant ( twice by same firm- must have been a sucker to go back there!) .
Onwards and upwards- ( or sideways - as necessary) -- but it is difficult out there at present - best of luck - and don't give up.
