Ok I was driving home when the car stalled and poured fuel all over the floor every time I turned it over. We have now looked and found that one of the fuel pipe clips to filter is damaged and had just pulled off. We have played around but it just won't clip back in as it appears beyond repair.

How easy is it to replace one of these and where do they go too?

Can you but these pipes?

They can be bought.the one from the tank tothe filter is only a couple of feet long and the easiest one to change.The one from the filter to the engine has a join just under the drivers door,and imo will probably be pretty awkward as it has several bends/kinks/curves (call them what you will) in it.

Its possible to do a repair,as the plastic pipe from the filter is only around a foot long and then attaches to a metal pipe.A length of reinforced fuel pipe with 2 or 3 small jubilee clamps at each end to ensure no leaks. I did this recently and it worked well. Pipe needs to be the correct diameter though.preferably too tight to go over the filter end (which seems slightly bigger than the other end) without dipping it in boiling water to soften it first.

There are two plastic clips that fit in the fittings of the pipes that you push on the filter are they still there

No Pete, one of the clips has been previously forced and damaged by someone (not me!), so it won't clip on thus allowing fuel to flow out. Have dumped about twenty quids worth of fuel on the floor now.

Gave up on it for the night and called AA to tow it home. Will have another look tomorrow.

Anyone know where to get the pipe from is it dealer only?.....if so any idea how much?

Is it the pipe to the filter from the tank,or the one from the filter towards the fron of the car ?
The one towards the front is around £40 afaik.The one from the tank to the filter would be a lot less I would think. VX only btw.

It's the one from the tank to filter I think!

your lucky.easy to replace (take cover plate off pump and disconnect pipe) and I would imagine a lotc cheaper than the much longer one that goes out the other side off the filter. Might be worth asking someone who is currently breaking a car.

Well AA mechanic says someone has been draining the tank that's why it's damaged as it has tie wraps where they have been fastening it back and he has seen it before!

It's turned out its the pipe to the front of the car so need to replace it As he says it
Temporary and I'm not covered if I breakdown with the same problem and it's not been fixed.

You could just use rubber fuel hose after cutting the connector off... Not ideal but a "permanent" repair without replacing the pipe

That sounds like a load of 'dangle berries' to me... More likely that someone has butchered a filter change on a previous occasion After all, if you're stealing fuel (and you wouldn't get much from the fuel lines) you wouldn't hang around to cable tie it back on Every time I've seen it they just cut the pipe

yeah and wouldn't it be easier, in terms of draining, to go for the pipe to the fuel tank? 

i hate those clips. i'm considering changing for a jubilee set up anyway. 2 mins. jobdone. and no special pliers

Well I haven't been under to inspect his handy work but it took him long enough. Is is as safe?.... I think he only put one clip on each end?

If done properly then it's fine Ideally you do need to put something into the plastic pipe to reinforce it though

maybe ill post a ''how not to'' once i've done it correctly after initially ballsing it up.... several times
