I passed a garage selling LPG in Barnsley today. It's hardly the priciest place in the world, but it was 65p. Has it gone up that much? :o
They must have seen you coming. ;D

Nah. It was probably spuds..65p a bag or summat. I'm due a trip to the opticians. :(

I'm paying 54ppl  :( It has gone up a lot......3 years ago i was paying 30ppl......i know petrol/diesel prices have also increased but not by that margin.....

Its got to stage where I wouldnt recommend converting an Omega anymore.....unless a)...you already have one and want to keep it and b) you do high mileage.

My next car will be a diesel again  :y

Undecided atm to which one.......but it will have to be estate/auto....maybe veccyC......maybe signum......kinda wanna stay vx...coz ive got TC card........but depends whats going for about £4k for a 3yo at the auctions  :-/

Veccy V6 oil burner  :)

Nice idea tunnie........but i need economy......more likely to be 1.9 diesel......mate of mine has just got a 1.9 diesel auto veccyC ....reckons brill on fuel economy........but then he did have an omega 2.2 auto on petrol....and was using it as taxi  ::)

Ahh yes but... with a 3.0 CDTi rather than the 1.9CDTi, you can get your customers there a lot faster!  ;D

Make more runs  ;)

Seriously though VeccyC sounds like the best bet, cheap parts on TC, not a bad motor... not in the same league for comfyness though.

Can't see the point in a Signum, if its the same price go for it. If its a lot more, then i can't really see the point, i doubt your punters would know the difference  :-/

I sort of agree, but...

You have to look at the difference in price. Around here petrol has just gone up again (yesterday) to 108.9ppl at the local garages (inc Tesco). I can get it slightly cheaper if I'm willing to do a 25-30 mile round trip, which seems to be a false economy!!

LPG at the same local petrol station is 57.9ppl, so there's still a fairly sizeable saving to be made!

I plan to keep the miggy for at least a couple of years and I do between 20 and 30,000 miles per year, including towing too. If the LPG kit costs me, for example, £900 to buy and get running then I can make that back within the first year!

That is, of course, assuming I can sweet talk Kevin (or anyone else!!) into giving me a little help with my conversion! I'm perfectly capable of doing the majority of it myself (fit tank, run pipework, mount units etc) but I'm a bit nervous about drilling and tapping the manifold and could probably do with a little help tuning the system! I'm thinking that for a few beer tokens someone will be willing to lend a hand!  :y :y :y :y :y

my 1.9TDi Passat would do the 600 mile round trip to exeter at the weekends on £55 of diesel

my 1.9TDi Auto Passat cost nearly 80 to do the same trip.

at current cost per mile, the LPG MV6 should hopefully do it on about 60-70.

The most cost effective solution at the moment? Buy an already converted vehicle and get it services.

Based on the kit on my omega, I bought a 65% off BRC LPG kit and got a free MV6 omega. It'll do for pottering around in until my mileage requirement drops and I can get the VR-4 galant or RX-7 I really want lol

Been 51.9p for ages and ages here. Have kept an eye on it. Of course, I know exactly when it'll go through the roof. ::)

As said, other fuels have gone up as well, and it'll be a long time before the differential closes up.

Yes, a tractor might be getting to be the better option, but that's hard to find under 1.20/l here now. I see LPG as a way of having the economy without having to give up a nice free-revving, quiet engine.

Ooh, one of each would be nice. :y

Still, RX7s must be getting a little dear to run. :o

I wonder what Mrs. KW's MX5 would be like with a rotary? I think it would be a mod that's "in character"?

My old 2.2 DTI elite estate went to scotland and back (880 mile round trip) when diesel was about 90p (so last week  ;)) and that cost me £77.

In your case i agree........you already have an omega.......you want to keep it.....and you do high mileage......so convert it  :y i agree you will save.... :y

I bought my omega to convert it to lpg and then use as a taxi........then it was worth it........i dont think that approach is worth it now......is what i was trying to say  :y

The RX-8 now that was some thing special but I dont think I could handle the fuel and oil costs....

I converted mine becuase with both me a jase being in the royal navy we are being split up again for another 6mths. i will be at HMS sultan and he will be at RNAS yeovilton. so to come home on a weekend it 180mile round trip.

which costs @ £34 in petrol and £17 in gas for one trip. so we reckon he will do @  15 trips petrol =£510 and gas =£ 255. I will save £255. (cals done at petrol at £1.20 and gas at 59p) I am getting 29/30mpg on petrol and 27/8 mpg on gas.

so not including the other planned journys we have just him getting home on a weekend has halved in price!

We dont plan on gettin rid of my migg as its a nice car and its perfect for us!

My CDX will be LPG'd

I do 20,000 miles a year at a conservative 25mpg, petrol currently at £4.90 a gallon so in a year i will spend £3920

On LPG i get about 20/22 MPG @ 2.50 my spend will be £2722.

The kit fully fitted will cost me about £700, this means i have a 1st year profit of about £500.

Less the petrol i do need for starting and cold running £30 per month = £360 per annum i am left with £140

The second and third years are where the savings will be made so long as LPG remains 3/4 the cost of petrol, once that gap closes LPG may not be the great saving it once was

Although the government are reducing the gap they are still committed to keeping LPG cheaper than petrol for its greener properties. I think we can safely say that you'll still be able to make savings, albeit reducing slightly, for at least the next 6 years or so.  :y :y

one other thing that people lose sight of when LPG'ing a big car is that resale is both a lot easier and you get a higher price.

So 2 years down the line when my CDX is say at 150,000 miles i may still be able to get £1500 for it, a comparable CDX running petrol may only be worth 1K

My Elite was never worth what i sold it for, but the LPG kit created enough interest that people were practically falling over themselves to either look at it or buy it at close to the asking price
