As said, tragic , but there comes a time when we ALL have to take responsibility for our own actions...  a crossing is a dangerous place , so be responsible and take care .... millions of people have crossed main lines WITHOUT being hit, so it is possible.

I just wonder if she had headphones on (loud music ?), was on the phone (distracted ?), or simply not concentrating ..:(

The thing is that there are signs, very clear views in both directions, trams/trains are fully lit with front and rear lights, they also sound thier horn as approaching.

There not actualy that fast along there either (50mph top speed) when compared to rail traffic.

We have a (admittedly single track) rail line to cross when driving to my house. It has lights on the crossing and no barriers. There has never been an accident at that crossing (that I'm aware of) in the last 10 years. ;)

The same line (but dualed) has barrier free crossings along it's length and there are several points where pedestrians can cross freely... Again there has been very few incidents (I can only think of one and the car driver was texting/on the phone when he tried to cross) ::)

People need to take responsibility for their actions... As said, she was either distracted/not paying attention or a potential candidate for the Darwin awards... It's very hard to miss a train/tram lit up and blowing it's horn ::)

That said, I do send my deepest sympathies to the family and friends who have lost such a young life :'(

Can you make anything "idiot proof"? :-\

Can't be any more dangerous nor difficult than crossing a busy road, surely? Millions of people have to cope with that on a daily basis. Very occasionally it goes wrong.

We have never been wrapped in as much cotton wool as we are these days yet this type of sad accident has always happened, and probably always will. You can beat safety into people as much as you like, you can try to remove danger from their environment if you like, but you won't succeed 100%, and someone will always suffer a lapse of concentration that will prove tragic. :(

Pretty much sums it up IMHO  :y

As an aside, studies have shown on numerous occasions that if "external" help or thought is removed from the equation and we (humans) are left to deal with the problem ourselves, it is, for the most part very successful (eg, crossroads with non working traffic lights).

Looks more like a railway line to me.

Single track to the left, thats the tram  ;)

Ahh I see, did not zoom in enough. But it does look like the same crossing for the railway line. I think more information would be needed to make any judgements for me.

Thats pretty bad taste cem  ::) :(
She is 2 meters underground because she was hit by a tram.

Not everything is a C.I.A. / goverment conspiricy or cover up you know  ::)

Sometimes its just a case of a young girl making a mistake that sadly cost her her life  :(

"In Gothenburg tram injuries were identified to be an important cause of traffic injuries and fatalities (48%) among pedestrians. During the summer middle-aged men, often under the influence of alcohol, were often severely injured and the injury rate was also high during the autumn. A majority (60%) of those fatally injured were under the influence of alcohol. Most injury events happened at or near a tram stop. The most serious injuries arose when the victim landed under a tram. In 1992, a runaway tram caused a major disaster, killing 10 pedestrians and injuring 30. The injury reducing measures the tram company has now started to introduce include safety railings at tram stops, side barriers on the tramcars to prevent people from falling under the tram and lower speeds near tram stops"

Drive through central London on any day and the number of people in suits who dart across roads inappropriately is not small. These so called educated people choose to ignore the signalled crossing and signs. Who is to blame when they get hit by a car when trying to cross a road as above? The number of teenagers who cross listening to loud music or not looking and texting is worrying as well. There is only so much hand holding you can do.

Blaming something or someone else is often a part of the grieving process. It is a terrible thing to happen to anyone, no matter what the cause.
