Bloody car!!
« on: 19 December 2012, 16:27:39 »

Really starting to wish we hadnt bought it now. Had the codes read the other day which is bringing up a code for the cat (2.2 petrol) which is hopefully down to the blow on the exhaust manifold, now the service light (car symbol with spanner through it) keeps coming on and car keeps going into limp mode. If it starts fine then its ok, if its a bitch to start and seems to be missing slightly then its in limp mode. Is it worth checking for oil/water in plug wells, or changing plugs anyway? Or any other ideas?

You seam to have posted a lot, all about the same issue really.

Get the codes read, list them here.

A leaking exhaust manifold is a known problem, you need to fix this first, then get the codes read again.

Its quite possible things like cam sensor codes (which causes limp mode/spanner light) can be thrown up by other issues. By all means check plugs, dead easy on 2.2.

But you need to resolve your known problem first, before guessing any other issues

Thanks again peeps. Is it possible the manifold is the cause of all the problems? When the codes were read the other day the only code was for the cat, so I suppose thats something

Cat is after the manifold  ;)

Its quite likely, but you need to fix what you know to be wrong first, then go from there  :y

As the only "cat" codes I know of are 0420/0430 and relate purely to the precat efficiency, and there is a wealth of info on the forum regarding how un-important such codes actually are .. other than the "annoyance" effect ...

You have been asked, several times .. what the exact codes are .. until you tell us we cannot assist, as anything we do is purely unsubstantiated guess work, which has no place in a logical diagnosis attempt.

Standard OBDII codes .. and AFAIK the 2.2 is OBDII  ???

Especially as

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90576.0

lists nowt as a "CAT" code .. ??

There are several O2 codes .. but the OP is adamant its a "CAT" code ...

Thanks for all the responses, it is greatly appreciated. Sorry if I've annoyed anyone being a bit vague, but shes been chewing my ear off more and more as the week has gone on...... Anyway, its booked in next week for a new manifold gasket, etc and I'll get them to give it the once over for leaks etc whilst its in. Now, the guy that read the codes said bring it back once the manifold is done and he'll recheck for any codes for nothing, which is bloody nice of him. Should I take it to him as soon as the manifold is sorted, or run it a day or 2 and see if the EML comes back on or it goes into limp again? And will there be any codes stored as its been in limp mode 3 or 4 times?

Also try Elite Pete, I'd highly recommend those chaps, they will know what they are doing  :y

Be wary of garages and dealers, for some reason they seem to make a balls up with Omegas.

Might be worth a PM to Marks DTM Calib, see if he can recommend local garages.
