Meat is meat. As we all remember, years ago it was cats and dogs in the fridge at the local chinese. We're all still here.

I don't eat ready meals but if I did and it was horse in them and i'd paid for beef I wouldn't be very happy ::)

Nor me Pete, as I cook all my meals using fresh ingredients that I know are spot on. :y

No, I would not be very happy to pay beef prices and then find out it is something else!

I've had a horse burger in Slovenia, the problem is horse meat is very, very similar in taste to beef. But it lacks the grease, it's actually better taste I found.

Lucky I never have cheap ready meals, for the very reason of knowing exactly what goes into my meals.

Love my slow cooker, just chuck all kinds in, usually comes out great! :)

Because "most" horsemeat comes from ex-working animals the meat is usually very lean and healthy. Can be a bit tough if not cooked slowly. Has an excellent taste.

Kangaroo meat is very similar, lean and tasty as the animals are "active"

Modern beef is fatty and tasteless (unless you buy high quality stuff), as it comes from "factory farmed" animals who do very little in the way of exercise/movement and are simply stuffed with all sorts of rubbish to put on bulk

There is concern around a drug given to horses - known as bute (phenylbutazone) - which is dangerous if taken by humans  :(

Exactly. That's the concern, IMHO. It's one thing having the wrong type of meat in a packet, but what if that meat wasn't even reared for human consumption? >:(

Does it really matter?

OK, I accept that all ingredients should be specified, but the frenzy around this is going much further than that.  Lets face it, if you're happy to eat beef, you're unlikely to have a violent allergy to Shegar.

Kevin Wood paints a valid picture about the meat not being fit for human consumption, however, if there are corners being cut, the chances are you would get beef thats not fit for human consumption...   ...and lets be honest, you'd be pretty retarded to believe that any processed food was actually any good for you. We all know its made up of the bits you don't want to know....

Not much news again, and some easy, low hanging fruit for our useless media.

My Dad said that after WW2 finished a butchers shop opened up in the local town selling "Horse Meat- unfit for human consumption". It did a roaring trade for human consumption. The difference being you could at least see what you were buying.
