Its rumoured they don't work if you change lanes in the duration too.

That`s all it is Chris, a rumour. http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/specs.htm
They're permanent. Can't mess with them. As said, we only get the temporary ones down 'ear.
Work on exactly the same principle ;)

Ffs, they are road side<<<<<

Not the gantrie ones. As the op mentioned admittedly?
Apologies, missed the "roadside" in your post. Ffs, is that your stock response to most posts :-X
It is to the deaf. ;) ;D

These ones are overhead and have the markers on the road in front  ??? And the ones near us are the blue fixed post ones that time you , but you still get overtaken and tailgated by lorries  >:(

And cars in a 50 zone going 10 mph over the limit , so they must be getting caught out and fined  :-\

Truck speedos are a damn site more accurate than car ones. If a truck is gaining on you, then you're going slower than you think...

Get a wriggle on, or get over it ::)

It dont bother me , ill stick to the speed limit in the zone  ::) Those that want to risk points on the licence are welcome to it but just seems very strange they are speeding without any care of consequences  :-\

Fair dos, but when a truck speedo says 80 kmh (50 mph) that is the speed it is doing. When your speedo in the car says 50 mph you're probably only doing 46-47mph. At a steady cruise, sat nav speeds are a better guide to your actual speed than your speedos best guess :y

Nope simply records video :y

The computer then mines the number plates and records the time you pass each camera. Because the cameras are fixed, the distance between each one is known. It's then a simple calculation to work out your speed from the time it has taken you to pass between any two cameras. If your average speed is over a preset threshold then you get a snotty letter in the post :y

By the time you reach the next junction the letter could be printed and on its way :-\

They are simply Gatso's, they can't do average speed and you can see which gantries have them mounted as you approach so you know when to brake.

And the ones near us are the blue fixed post ones that time you ,
The blue ones are TrafficMaster cameras, nothing to do with recording speed.

They install those yellow half arch posts for the temporary ones round here, but have seen blue versions of the same elsewhere which are permanent  :-\

They are for traffic monitoring (eg, Traffic Master), not for recording your speed.

The blue fixed ones have 3 cameras , one for each side of the road ... before entering the zone it says average speed cameras 50 mph , each camera is equal distance apart and there is 4 of them . People doing at least 65-70  :(

The ones overhead is in a zone that states average speed cameras .. max speed 60 , folks doing 75-80  ???

Ive seen them brake before the markings on the road before the cameras  :y
