I also have the same thoughts on what to buy next which will be in about 3 years time when My omega reaches the 100K. I think it will be the BMW 5 series tourer, Like the merc's on the outside but dont like the inside layout or the comfort zone tried a couple before buying the omega estate, it was 50/50 with the bmw or omega, the dash on the facelift omega that made me choose over the BMW. But I do get the best of both worlds, my son owns a BMW M3 so do get to drive it from time to time. The only thing that I have noticed whilst driving it, many motorist do not let you out in to the  main traffic from side roads etc, do not seem to have that problem with the omega it might be the  humble vauxhall badge that helps.

I admire your optimism. Not many people plan around their omega lasting another three years ;D

Geez, it'll just be broken in!  I've 150K on mine, can easily run it another 5yrs/50K+  My only serious concern is the cost of petrol.

Trains may have been invented here, but public transport is a foreign concept!

Well, since the death of the meega the other day,  I have been completely unsucessful in finding another to replace it.  I really need as new a car as I can get hold of, and finding one of those with a driver involvement pack is nigh impossible.

So, I have started looking around at the other proper wheel drive alternatives.  What do you guys think of ...

Merc C200 Kompressor
BMW 320 D
Jag X-Type 2.5 v6

Cheers
Merv

Well if you fancy another Omega, mine is for sale here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1163617179/2#2

Unfortunately there is nor answer to your question... I used to change car every three years, the reason I am still on this forum after 5 years of current car ownership is that there is nothing to replace it with!

More to the point:

Merc C200 Kompressor - C-class is a Vectra-sized car with a very unrefined and noisy 4-pot (albeit super-charged) engine.

BMW 320 D - Again Vectra-sized car - too small for me.

Jag X-Type 2.5 v6 - OK, so we moved from the Vectra to the Ford Mondeo now... and we lost the RWD on the way. Why not just buy a Mondeo ST200 or Vectra SRi V6?

No, I'm afraid that if you are looking for a decent-sized RWD car with a down-to-earth price tag you need to look across the pond - Chrysler 300C ot Cadillac CTS.

I miss my F-Reg 2.9 Granada Scorpio company car.... I know, it's a Ford, but it was fun.
