The real problem is some halfwit in a council office who can't do the job properly and doesn't check small things like bank account details.

I notice that she hasn't *apparently* been asked to repay it...
Only skimmed the fail article, haven't looked at the other articles.

Blonde or not, if a windfall you shouldn't have turns up in your account, you need to be a bit daft to just go out and spend it without thinking that someone might want it back. Still, nice pair noted. :y

More failed bilge. ::)

The paper it's in is irrelevant .....

No. It isn't. The article is entirely focused on discrediting the woman, instead of the idiotic council at fault. Typical bitch and moan "oh look everyone, let's all join in in deriding .....(whatever the subject is)" usually an individual. Rather than an establishment that could do better, there by improving things for others.

Its a trash story. They should focus on the councils error and misappropriation of public funds. (Not that that's entirely clear for what little I could bear to read)

I didn't read the article in any of the links ..... I heard in the radio's news. The best bit was that she invested £40000 of it!

....and gave £1000 to her mother. ;D :y :y

This woman obviously has a business head on her shoulders, as well as being nice to her 'dear old mum'.... ;)

Maybe.. Perhaps she intends to fob them off until the investment has made up the shortfall to pay it off. ;D

I notice that she hasn't *apparently* been asked to repay it...
Only skimmed the fail article, haven't looked at the other articles.

It used to be the case, unsure now tho, that if you got paid to much accidentally, they can ask for it back but are not legally entitled to it back (unless you are told before hand that an overpayment is going to made)....hence the bit at the bottom of the article....saying they are working with the police to see if they can recover the money  :-\

Surely not. If you receive money which is not yours you should give it back, especially if you know it is a mistake?

I'm going to have a look at those orbs now. :P

Many years ago I used to be a contractor....I submitted an invoice to my agency for £4k.....week later i got a call from my agency....first off saying the call was being recorded and that they had accidently got the decimal point in the wrong place...and they were accidently paying me £40k....they at the time said they had to legally advise me of the overpaymnent.....before the money hit my account.....and when it did my account....they were requesting i repayed £36k of it.....and i did.....but so i was told at the time they wernt legally entitled to it back unless they told me of the overpayment before it happened  :y

You may be right but it doesn't seem to make sense.
