Ebay Keyfob repairs - should I?
« on: 20 June 2008, 14:33:54 »

As a lot know I am repairing keyfobs mainly facelift but also the occasional battery holder for 2 button remotes.

How should I do an advert for ebay to try to make some money off these?

I Wouldnt....

Degree of trust on here.

Would you send your car key to a total stranger for repair?

Who could then come around and rob your car?

I wouldn't

still enough to rob the car!

I beleive there are dodgy units you plug in the diag port to start the car, bypassing everything!

You are asking for quite a level of trust on a place people often don't trust.

Does seem a bit of a sticky issue. Not sure how you could best go about it. I suppose having a link to good testomony would help.

I find in general people in the main will trust.... if the price is right  ;D

Why not.

If they have issues, they wont go for it.

If you are offering them a service that potentially saves them a fortune then they are daft not to take it up.

A thought here is, I belive that post offices used to offer a PO box service, check it out, and if it's worth while and they are concerned get them to set up a tempory PO box number to return the key to and then they have piece of mind on getting a quality cheap repair, and returned in a way that they have no security concerns.

Just a thought.

Martin my i ask how much you charge and what repairs can you do.

Only ask as my fob isnt working buttons feel very vague, boot release works most of the time,Locks occasionally and never unlocks.

Its the square type for Facelift.

Just a thought but do the older style oval two button fobs work with face lift...lock and unlock.?

You need new switches OOF rate of £7.50.

A few members have them

Both suffer the problem with switches failing.  Though neither are as bad as the 3 button facelift type.

Martin Imber - I think your issue comes with offering repairs, but not being able to repair faults not related to switches/batt holders.  So make sure you put something in your description about what can and can't be repaired.  Also, for return, use recorded postal services.
