Saw a similar incident on the M3 yesterday. Coach driver went in to the back on a minibus causing it to go in to another vehicle.
Thing was the hard shoulder is coned off in preparation of the traffic management system that is being installed, so the coach driver thought it was best to stay on the carriageway causing a 5 mile tailback 
Oh, yes, "smart" motorway, apparently.
As far as I can tell, that means a load of tax collection speed cameras and a sign every half mile that informs you of "Delays after A<insert random number here>". Oh, and if you're anywhere near the midlands it, of course, also displays "M6 Toll clear".
Well worth the months / years of delays. 
I am split on it.
Yes it means I can no longer beat my record of house to Heathrow at 4am

but if it helps with the morning rush hour madness then that could be worth the embuggerance......maybe
