Might consider swapping the slushbox for a proper gearbox whilst you're at it... ::)

Wifey has to drive it so it has to be an auto.

Women get confused with manual gearboxes and clutches.

As I was interested, I Googled and found this interesting thread....
http://www.vxronline.co.uk/forum/archive/index.php/t-79276.html

Interesting.

The gains are not so great  they would blow the engine (or gearbox) to pieces. Hopefully. ::)

Stock......250 BHP......258 lb ft torque.

Remap...290/310 BHP.....335 lb ft torque.

In my opinion the remap figure is how it should have left the factory. :-\

What would you like to know?

Bluefin is probably the most convenient. You get a handset that enables you to rewrite the map/return to stock as required. Plus you may be able to sell the unit on when you are finished with this car. Plus they have a 7 day refund policy if you are not satisfied.

The others sound like a single shot map, which may be the better choice if they are cheaper/you plan to keep the car for a prolonged period/are sure you will be happy with the end product..

Dreamscience do not cater for Vx except the VXR. But their reputation and service is very good. They are predominantly Ford tuners.

With most FWD turbo cars, remaps usually cause issues with the clutch slipping. Especially if it has been previously abused. Drive shafts can go, Ford are particularly notorious for this.

Insurance will go up and most mainstream insurers will refuse to cover the remap. Use someone like Chris Knott or Sky to get better prices.

Edit: Pre and post dyno results are usually a great way for tuner to get more money from you. Results are usually operator dependent, highly variable and of very little use other than bragging rights.

If I were to have my 1.4 99bhp Astra remapped, the increase in power would be a mahoosive 9bhp, taking me to 108.
I'm not sure I could handle that sort of poke, so I'll leave well alone.

Check the max torque load of that gay fwd auto before going any further Dr.

Good point I seem to recall that my Signum's 3.0 oiler was reined in a bit to accommodate the aisin Warner slushbox

There have been several discussions on the signum auto over the years iirc. Most come on the used market at about 60k it seems.

Or am I being unfair? Certainly front wheel drive auto is compromised given the space available between the end of the crank and front wheel. Ie about half that of a rear wheel drive box. Therefor the drive line has to be offset, which means a weakness straight away.

There "may" be room for more power, but it will almost certainly affect the life of the box eventually.

Anyway, all I'm saying is do some research first. The petrol "may" have more leeway....or NOT.

Fixing it means engine out and £1000 to £1600 bill at a guess?

Is the 1.4 Astra without a Turbo? :-\

Never mind. Performance should be enough for a coffin dodger such as yourself. :)

I liked your previous choice, the CLS.

Those 500s are cheap, been looking at those. Could LPG one, appear to take well to gas.
