Anyone know the criteria for a network Q car i.e what the age limit a car can be to be Network Q approved; reason for asking is that a Vx dealer I'm in the process of dealing with is telling me that the car I'm purchasing is over three years old (dec' 2003 model) and is hence known only as an ' Approved ' and not Network Q car and will only come with 6 months AA warranty, although it will apparently go through the same procedure as a Network Q vehicle would go through, just feel I could be getting ripped off here with the warranty side of things!

That is how the main dealers I have bought cars from in the past have applied the criteria.  I don't think NQ rules have been changed. :-/ :-/

I don't think so, although I cannot seem to confirm it by reviewing the Network Q site.  I just know that when I purchased a 1996 Elite in 1999 it was deemed, being over 3 years old, as being outside NQ cover, and the main dealer stated that it would only be under  warranty cover.  It is worth checking though what the situation is in 2008.

I believe their sites will sell you a car that is over 3 years old, as they once did for me, but you will only receive warranty cover not full NQ protection.

The network Q guarantee is based around the dealer doing the full set of checks and service has to be upto date.

If they find anything wrong they must put it right at the dealers expense i.e. if the disc and pads are mullered, they must be fixed before sale!.

They can then pay a one off fee to Netwrok Q to secure the warranty......hence its generally down to the crs condition, history, work required etc as to if a Network Q Waranty is put on the thing.

No hard and fast rules relating to age from memory.

As you can imagine though, some dealers do try it on with network Q which is why random spot checks are carried out on cars and they get caught out!

Just bought my wife a November 2004 registered Astra from a dealer and that comes as a network Q car with 12 months warrany.

Just checked with my local Vx main dealer on the rules relating to Network Q.  They tell me that in fact there is NO upper age limit on Network Q cars, but usually they apply a limit of 5 years, although they are prepared to perhaps extend this for a customer but it depends on the vehicle.    

So it looks as though each dealer may very well make up the rules as they go along, as I think mine did in the 1990s when limiting it to 3 years!   Bottom line is your dealer is applying around about the 5 year limit Crusier Link.

Cheers for that , however contacted another division of Now vauxhall and they only give up to 3 years and 50,000 miles limit for network Q and appears that it is at the discretion of the dealer, also got out of them , that the cost to them for a car over three years old costs £500 pounds to enable a network Q warranty and £100 if it's under 3 years old, so now I can see where they're coming from, it's all to do with cost!! so looks like I'm stuck with 6 months AA cover , still , I suppose it's better than nothing!

I am going to our Caravan at the weekend, so I have been told,
If I end up in Harrogate or calderdale Buying an Omega then Iwill hold you personaly responsible, thank goodness of them are estates.

Had a bit of a result today, spoke to the sales manager at the dealership and explained that I wasn't happy about the fact that the car was advertised as a network Q car suggested to him in a fairly polite manner!! that it would be a good idea to supply it with a network Q warranty due to advertising and all that !! and has agreed to it, so a bit happier about the sale now , oh and got them to throw in 6 months tax in the process.
