This is a £750 car, right? FFS, Al....get it bought or forget about it. Personally, I wouldn't buy any car for £750, let alone a complicated beast like this.
I might as well just say it......for £750 it will be a heap of shite trouble.

Better to have a stationary S430 than a moving Astra  :D

Of course....a statement worthy of a two-year-old always helps the conversation along.

What would it be worth in bits?

Not a lot. Plenty of them beyond eco repair should mean no shortage of bits avail. Plus most of the bits are badly engineered and thus no use secondhand  :)

AMG alloys? HIDs?

Exactly, like any sub £1k S-class/7-series/A8/Jaguar XJ/ Range Rover/Shogun/etc it's the sort of thing you buy on a whim as a toy. When it breaks, which it will because stuff like that need owners with healthy wallets to keep them reliable, throw it away. Cars like that are not the sort of thing to buy for a car you need to depend upon.

When I was a boy it was said that Mercedes cars were hewn from granite.

No, standard 7 spoke 16"s. Possibly Hids, has headlight washers :-\ Does have heated/vented/electric seats all round along with electric column. Base radio judging by the presence of a cover panel. No sunroof as near as I can tell.

I suspect that the dealer gave peanuts for it and is trying to make a few quid on it and the not testing it means that he can more legitimately hide behind the 'Sold as seen' bs rather than actually being deceptive :-\

Needs seeing/driving really, but was trying to decide whether the 80 mile round trip was worth it or not... hence ringing first, but his attitude on the phone makes me want to not bother, but the car could potentially be alright :-\ Fuel economy and insurance cost are broadly similar to the 525i... be more comfortable too ;)

80 mile trip that's a walk in the park! Had to get a train to Edinburgh when I bought my 190e .Get it bought 😉

Get it viewed, or better still bought. You've lost more than £750 on motors in the past ::) Besides which, its worth near on £200 in scrap of it all goes to sh!t ;)
