Too save time space and what sounds like hassle could you not simply have an automated welcome email/ PM from the group admins.

Save space on forum and surely new members could be made welcome whilst early days of posting. :-?

To be honest if i join a new forum i very rarely even look at welcome/newbies thread....just jump in and start posting.

Not the case for everyone though.

When I joined, it took me a week to pluck up the courage to post a hello, and when the welcomes came in it made a hell of a difference.

Yes point taken skuntie... ;)

An automated PM is sent at registration.

The Newbie area is very valuable, and helps those not so familiar with computers/forums etc

Some people are nervous about posting, incase they say something wrong, (technical or otherwise).

I mean a good example is Skruntie..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
