poor under privileged Rishi not having had SKY telly when he was a kid. I've only had SKY for a year .... not for the telly but for their interweb.

 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2qql1wk794o

I'm not Sunak's biggest fan as I think he's done some stupid things whilst Chancellor and PM, like jacking up Corporation Tax for example.  ::)

However... These constant digs about his wealth do get on my tits, as yes his parents sent him to a top private school, but they are exactly the type that will get clobbered with Labour's VAT raid on private schools. As I understand it his dad was a GP and his Mum was a Pharmacist, so while probably 'comfortable', not exactly super wealthy, and Winchester Colleges fees were probably a stretch for them.

It turned out to be a good investment as young Rishi went on to forge a successful career in banking and finance and obviously made a lot of cash in his own right.  Good for him!  :y

a bit more than comfortable I would say if the average GP's salary is £92k .... though as you say, college fees would be considerable.
I would say £92K was just a 'comfortable' salary today, especially if there is only a single earner.

I don't go short myself .... but as SWMBO only works 14 hours a week, I wouldn't mind being paid a comfortable salary  ::)

I wouldnt mind being paid half a comfortable salary, and I am a single earner in the house.  ::)

I do agree about the annoyance of media banging on about Rishis money though.
Especially when they claim he s a billionaire. His father in law is one, but that doesnt make him one.  ::)

but my point wasn't about money/salary, it was the fact that Rishi thought that going without SKY telly was a big thing!  ;D

It's like he committed a cardinal sin for marrying a girl from a wealthy family FFS!  >:(

I despise the envy, bitterness and hatred that people have in this country towards wealthy people. The country would quickly collapse if they left and took their money with them.  ::)

I saw Bill Nighty looking most dapper on the front of a paper today and thought for a moment he was running for PM...

That may have been an improvement over the other options.

Who's he?  ::) Is that Bill Nighy when he's ready for bed?  ;) ;)
;D

He'd probably wear a three piece suit for that too :D

When I served in the army (only for six years), if you started at 18 and retired at 40, so 22 years, you'd retire on about two thirds of your pay, plus a lump sum. In your last year of service, you could take up the offer of training for a new career.
I believe the pension is nowhere near as much now.
