Under carpet bitumen
« on: 24 November 2024, 20:19:53 »

Carpet removed and some of the bitumen has necessarily been removed so I can use the old sparkly glue gun.

Is the bitumen the same as the roofing stuff you get from the Toolfixes or Screwstations? Or is it something particular?

TIA!

Self leveling roofing goo would probably work, or you could use dynomat or similar  ;)

...but my car doesn't have self levelling?

Trying to avoid using sticky mats because I used them in Zeke and I got bored shaping them to the contours.

I've been pointed to some compound on Frost auto which looks designed for the job, and more importantly it's cheap with the Black Friday sale! I shall report back. Odds are I'll have forgotten about Frost by payday so will end up with the roofing goo as suggested :y

I found that self adhesive flashing wasn't much cheaper than Dynomat, but was nowhere near as effective. There are products equivalent to Dynamat that are cheaper.

What are you trying to acheive, as the two things mentioned above have very different attributes.

Dynamat is excellent at dampening the vibrations within a panel, so is best used on large unsupported areas like doorskins, quarter panels, boot lids etc. If you're trying to keep noise out, then high density closed-cell foam is better. Latex coatings are better at reducing heat transfer, and the branded products include tiny glass spheres to improve their effectiveness. Informed selection of these products, including combining them can make a huge difference inside the car.
