The car sprayer is back from holiday soon so he will be the first point of contact. If no joy there I will contact Mr Wood. Fortunately I haven’t paid all the money yet.

It turned out to be high resistance in the yellow plugs under the seat. A quick spray with switch cleaner and all is well. Don’t know what caused this but the guy with the scanner found it in minutes and said it can happen to a nearly new car.

cannot see what he means ?   most likely either one of the plugs was disconnected and not reconnected properly or the internal contacts are dirty or weak.  if it happens again i would check them properly for corrosion, moisture damage or rust. no connector should have any real detectable 'resistance' through it ( of any appreciable amount)

I was a bit sceptical, but I always am. Never had this problem in the 21 years I’ve had the car so I suspect it was something that happened while the car was being restored, anyway it’s fixed and he only charged me 40 quid so I’m happy.

Easy with a diag reader that can read the correct ECU, particularly if it has live data capability.

I've seen this on a 6 year old car, where the contacts needed cleaning up under the seat to stop the airbag light popping up

Over enthusiastic valeting or infrequent movement of the seat (so the wiring is disturbed suddenly) are probably the likely causes
