Hi all,

Looking to use a Nextbase ODB Power harness adapter to provide convenient power to a Nextbase Dashcam.

Question is, as I have a Non ODB2 Omega (V plate Mini facelift) will the ODB power adapter be ok ?  I assume the ODB pin-outs for 12V power are the same regardless of ODB type ?  Just thought would asked the daft question.

Alternative is the other piggyback fusebox adaptor, but the ODB adapter which seems to be used now to supply the range of dash cams seems neat and slim angled adapter so I assume would fit whilst still keeping fusebox cover closed.

Thanks in advance. :y

If you want it permanently on then attach it to one of the plethora of red wires behind the fuse box.

If you want it switched then one of the black wires.

But, if you want to be really clever, use either up on the overhead console. Both the sunroof and mirror have either option just there :y

Yes, the Omega OBD port provides a permanent 12v and a pair of 0v.  But you'd be beyond stupid to use it.  And I think you'd struggle to find one slim enough to allow the cover to close, as it really is quite tight.

Wire it in properly, most want a switched feed and have a battery for carpark knocks, but some might need permanent. Or both. If you're not confident wiring it in, get an auto electrician to do it. Or scrap the idea, seeing as dashcams usually encourage idiotic behaviour.

 :P   ;D

I have a Nextbase 522GW fitted in both cars and both are wired into the fuse box ignition live. The internal battery on Nextbase dashcams last about ten seconds after the ignition is turned off so ignition live is no good for car park knocks, unless you run it off an auxiliary battery source.
However, you can run Nextbase dashcams on permanent live providing that you set them up properly. You need to set the ‘auto off’ feature correctly and the ‘parking mode’ correctly, otherwise you’ll return to your car with a flat battery. Have a look on YouTube for the correct set up procedure if using a permanent feed.  :y

Is that why you are now a reformed character drive like Miss Daisy, so you can antagonise other motorists by driving slowly in the middle lane, so you can post the footage of them undertaking you....

Bezos gave me a dashcam to review*.  I wired it to a ciggy plug, did the review, unplugged and chucked in the big black receptacle that gets emptied every fortnight.

Work of bloody satan.  Like helmet cams for the moral highground idiots cyclists.

*Granted, not for the first time, I clicked on the wrong item - imagine my horror at getting a bloody dashcam instead of something interesting!

Whilst shouting at them ‘DASHCAM’, I have a dashcam.  ;D

I can seriously understand why someone that drives like you doesn’t own a dashcam.   ;D  It would be like scoring an own goal with your own footage if you ever had to produce it.  ;D

Thanks all.  Yep suspected it was tight for the ODB option so I'll forget that.

I'll get the fusebox wire kit and do properly, and study the manual for suitable permanent 12 V (ensuring as say set up Auto-Off and Parking Mode correctly) or plump for suitable switched 12V.

Thanks all.

If you would like to power it from a permanent live source it’d pay you to watch this video, as he explains it better than Nextbase do.  :y
Hope that helps.

Err, Pot and Kettle, Mr YZ ;D

Besides, I'm a reformed character, as well you know.  I haven't had a tug from the old bill in years.  I haven't even done a speed awareness course this decade. Fully reformed.

Although, I was obviously always a careful and considerate driver, having never had points on my licence (touches wood quickly!).  I'm just even more careful and considerate  :P

Soldered the hardwire kit on mine onto the rear 12v socket legs with an inline fuse. Dash cam will then stay on for 10 mins after you turn the ignition off as its on the multitimer switched circuit.

I have an FM-DAB Unit plugged and powered from my rear 12V socket, but it doesn't stay on for 10 mins when I turn ignition off  :-\  I guess it only does that as a feature on the Facelift Omega and obviously not my MFL.

Fuse 17 (Horn) I think is the one I'll pick, ensuring set the ‘auto off’ feature correctly and the ‘parking mode’ and watched the helpful Video  :y

I've hardwired a few, and used a switched supply from either the inside mirror, or the sunroof
