No even a leftie like you could ever believe there will be any peace in that area. It was never, ever going to happen.  Even with a regime change in Iran, it would be unlikely to happen.

Remember, the US asked Israel to hold back a bit to try to achieve a ceasefire, because Iran wouldn't agree to anything whilst Israel were fighting Iranian proxies surrounding it, yet Iran did not ask their proxies to stop fighting.

Iran's stated mission for the last 48 years has been:
A) Eradicating Israel
B) The destruction of the US

The alternative is to let Iran control the international waters, and decide which countries are allowed to be attacked without punishment.

Somebody has to do something.  The wet dream we currently have, and the wet dream we'll have from next week, don't have the balls for it, so we should be broadly grateful that the US and Israel are prepared to.

I see Trump has now ditched his knee jerk plan to impose a 20% toll. Instead the ROME will pay for massive trade and investment deals.

I cannot see how the war will end satisfactorily. “ Somebody has to do something” ? What exactly?

By very publicly stating we would not get involved against Iran, it gave Iran strength.

I think every observer accepts that Iran is just a few short years from a nuclear bomb, and already has ballistic capability.  Even the left observers accept that Iran would use such a capability to make Israel disappear, which has been Iran's stated number 1 mission since the demise of the Shahs.

That probably would result in a global war where all bets are off...  ...and we're walking blindly into it.

Still isn’t an answer to what next in Trumps war?

No one can actually use nuclear weapons. That is an unwritten rule. They are purely defensive weapons.

If Iran had and used a nuclear weapon, I don’t think it would result in global war. Russia and China would just watch on the sidelines as the US, Israel and maybe Western European countries became mincemeat in a grinding land war. Russia hasn’t the bandwidth and China , as always, is playing the long game. Taiwan would be an easy win.

The only thing Donald did wrong with Iran, was listening to the rationalists. He should have sqpent another week two and flattened the place. Had it been any other country they were dealing with, they did enough to make a point and reinforce it, but unfortunately the Iranian regime is a venomous cockroach and needs to be dealt with as such.

Others have previously noted that they needed reigning in but noone actually had the backbone to even try. Whether you live through the window of Trump derangement or are simply a moderate socialist, if anyone was going to do anything, Our Donald was as likely a person to try as anyone.

Those subsequent posts are all well and good. No doubt a bit of lefties bashing cheered them up but it still hasn’t answered the question.

The nearest we got was flatten the place. Power plants and bridges might work. There have been enough wars for people to realise that the nation keeps on going through it all.

I would imagine it would be difficult to properly sort the Iranian problem without an invasion of ground forces, and its a big country.
Trump obviously doesnt want to do that, because high numbers of troops coming back home in body bags will not go down well in the U.S.
It could easily turn into another Vietnam.
Not an easy one to solve, but someone needs to find a way to do it at some point, and preferably soon.
