Servo back out reset the switch and refit :-\
Servo out wouldn't improve access to the switch

Trouble is, I can't remove the bloody switch - I can get my hand on it just enough to slightly twist it, but not by the required 45 degrees to allow it to lift out.

Can you reach your arm over the steering column to reach the switch.  :-\  Feel free to give me a shout if you think my skinny little arms would be able to reach any better.    :y
The switch presses in and twists 45 degrees. I can get my hand on it enough to twist it probably about 30 degrees.  Being right handed, I'm doing it kneeing on floor on the drive and reaching in (by feel only) to it.

Yes, I’ve seen how it sits on top of the pedal bracket.  :y  I’m more than happy to pop over if you think a different pair of hands may help. I assume that any obstructive trims and kick panels have been removed.
Most seem to favour the seat back,  on knees method, as opposed to seat back fully reclined, lay on back with head in footwell approach, as what you gain in vision you lose in mobility.  :-\
Anyway, happy to pop over to give it a go if that helps.  :y

Fair does, I was thinking of relieving the pressure against the pedal to free up wiggle room ;)

I had interpreted your description as you couldn't get a grip enough to turn it against the pressure as in the direction you needed to turn it to release the switch to adjust it was forcing it against the pedal rather than fat fingers....

Long nosed pliers perhaps?

Does access improve if you remove the cluster and come at it from above? Assuming of course that you don't need to remove the scuttle first  >:D

If I’ve interpreted it correctly, the pedal switch is similar to this. (Image from XF, not XJ)
You can see the plunger, if it’s too high the same errors as before will most likely pop up.

Can you get a spanner on the green part just to tweak it :-\

It must be far more difficult than it looks, as some suggest removing the steering column.  :o :o
The job is listed as ‘moderately challenging’ due to poor access.

This is precisely the setup. Looks like XF and later XJ share the same part numbers for entire pedal assembly and for the switch.

I'm hoping I can reset the plunger, though I have got a (pattern) switch on order from Parts In Motion, but prob won't arrive until late in week as they use Herpes.

And DG, no way to get visible access.  At best, you can, if you get in a very precise permission, you can just see the very bottom of the blue bit were it's pushed through the bracket.

I did start to remove some extra trim, but it wasn't providing any benefit, as there is a load of metalwork just behind it.

Obviously, to remove pedal means servo gas to come back out. FFS

Brakes are overrated.  You can use cars in front to slow down.

So YZ250 popped over this morning, and got the switch out in around 20 minutes.  Mrs TB and I were then cursing he'd done in 20 minutes what we've tried for for 4 hours on Friday and 7 hours on Saturday ;D

We then tried to work out the reset mechanism for the switch, as there seemed to be zero information online.  Both of us messed around with it for a fair while until we sussed it.

Then YZ250 refitted the switch, which took nearly 3 hours of fiddling to get it lined up blind, and at the right angle, and without "firing" the latched reset mechanism.

Quick drag check now shows both switches in the brake switch working as they should.

Massive, massive thanks to YZ250 for popping over - he's not exactly just around the corner - and for his perseverance on it :y

I hope you don't hurt like I do, it's not a comfortable position to access it the way you did, laying with your back on the cill for ages.
