WOW they are big piccys

I'm going to rock the boat here.......What is the attraction with old fords?

ok they had a racing heritage, but then so did a lot of cars in the 50's and 60's and even into the 70's and 80's......you dont see people drooling over a metro, but the 6R4 was a huge success in groupe A and rallycross....

the original advert for the twink 'scrote, is very poor, the seller is relying on its rarity to see itself, no mention of its history of provenance just that its had a rebuild, if i wanted that much money i would be putting together a corker of an auction and i wouldn't do a BIN, the car and a decent auction should create enough of an interest to get the money deserved

MarkDTM, i was under the impression that Jag and AM were based on a similar platform, due to being owned by ford, so in effect you would be buying a Jag XKR or whatever they were called
Old Fords?...Attraction???? You're not rocking the boat mate it's a fair question that i can't answer suffice to say i love 'em, they have a charm or appeal that other 60's/70's didnt have which explains why todays clasid Fords fetch more than Austins, Hillmans, Vauxhalls etc. They were better in thier day hence more collectable now. 8-)

There is something... I think it's probably because they were very staid, simple cars in their time. They have just aged better for that reason. In addition, Ford stuck with RWD whereas most others were meddling with wrong wheel drive.

.. and the 6r4 was not a great example IMHO. Might have had the odd doorhandle from a metro but it was essentially a different car. The production Metro was a dog of the highest order.

Can't think of much from the BL/Austin/Rover stable that I'd druel over today.

My mate Markie has an Escort - beautiful car

I think he paid about £60 for it, had been sat for ages.  A lick of paint and a recover of the seats (ok, a fair bit more than that !!) and it's like new:

Sorry James but please can you re-size the pics in this post. Forum guidelines require 640 width max. These are 2048 wide and are playing merry hell with my browser.

TIA.

What browser are you using? IE just allows a scroll across.

Unfortunately I couldn't resize because they're not my pics, so I have just removed the post.

I would but this and pocket the difference :)

A tidy looking motor that, given that it is genuine. And good value too, heavy on juice but as a 'toy car' would be fine. :y :y :y

The Avenger was a canny car, underated compared to the Ford Cortina, almost identical in reality. :y

My brother has a fully restored RS Mexico in yellow with white wheels in storage - but drives the wife round in a BMW 2.8 Coupe cos it's too noisy, bouncy and uncomfortable  :-?
