benefits seems to be a mute point with a lot of people these days, especially as things are getting harder and harder for people on a financial level....
My wife was earning about 20K when she was working, she has been off on the sick now for 3 years and just been signed off for another 6 months, due to her illness (M.E.) it does not look like she will return to work for the forseeable future either.
She is very lucky, her work are still paying 50% of her salary, in addition she gets disability living allowance at the lower level, i believe that is about £30 a week, a helpers allowance, another £30 a week and she has a blue badge.
She feel guilty taking this because of the stigma attached to benefits, she has worked all her life and so has paid into the 'benefit pot' in fact she still pays tax and NI on the 50% she receives from her company.
My view is, if you are genuinely entitled to it, bloody well take it, the social system was put together to help those who are in need.
