How Nervous?
« on: 10 January 2007, 10:51:30 »

As I type this my elite estate is in the garage either having a wheel bearing changed or an MOT done...  :-/

I know it should be fine, I have checked over everything, the brakes are all ok (stripped and cleaned rears and fitted new handbrake cable), seems to steer fine and there are no clouds of smoke (unlike the Saab!  :-[)

Yet I am still nervous as hell!

I feel like I want to be pacing up and down, awaiting the news...  ::)

Always a nervous time Dave.

Must say tho' I always like to be present when the test's being done. Makes the tester a little more conscienscious I feel.

Nice to see we're all only human after all!  ;D

I think the set up over there for getting an MOT is very different from here, but I always dread it!  :-[

I know that feeling .....

Especially about Wheel bearings....

despite not being mentioned by Auto data or Haynes, there is apparently a "special tool" for lining up the rear bearings on the estate....

if not used, they can tend to fail early... like a week to a month after fitting....  according to Gurney's ...  our local VX dealership

they did however lend the tool to my local garage free of charge.....   they just had to wait a couple of days for it...

While there, i'm also having a new HBV, EGR, and a thorough clean out, including the breathers and so on, and rear brake pads...

if they do this all well, and not bastardly expensively... I might get them to do the full suspension replacement I've got lined up for My Sintra.

I think the setup for MoTs is very different in Northern Ireland. At least we don't have to do the underframe clean here before we take it in over here! - If anyone has noticed the precarious ramps at garages in NI, thats what they're for.

I just take mine to a while you wait MoT only place now so I can do the pacing in the waiting room watching them do the test through the window.

Good luck with the ticket! Which garage have you taken it?

I wandered around bemoaning the fact that the best cars there were mine and a S&R Elite.

Oh and trying to get the service reception people to listen to me for retuning their TV and freeview box.
