I will use this space to talk a little about the Omega in Brazil.
From what I saw, you are curious about the 4.1 engine, which barely existed outside of America.
We started the engines with 2.0 and 3.0 here, exactly the same used in Germany. Both with ignition distributor. A curiosity is that because of our gasoline is of lower quality at the time, these engines came with a change in programming the injection of fuel with different maps. It was simply a switch in position "91" and "95", referring to octane fuel. This was used at position 91. But when used in position 95, the improved engine performance, including increasing its power, a fact proven in dynamometer. The version 3.0 was to have 177 hp, similar to Europe. Simply with a change in the switch, just reverse the position of this device. It was not necessary to buy anything and even find a mechanic.

Because the 3.0 engine to be manufactured in Germany, Brazil had been prepared to exchange engine, this time the former U.S. 4.1, used here since 1968 in the Chevrolet Opala. This engine was of low efficiency, but very sturdy and durable, with a huge potential for preparation. Was always very quiet and smooth operation with low vibration.
 In all these years, equipped Pisces, boats, power generators, trucks ... Always with carburetor. For Omega, received new system of admission, new head and sequential electronic injection Bosch Motronic 2.8.1, which did yield more with less fuel. These changes were made by Lotus English, at the time when the GM was its owner. The lotus offered options for up to 300 hp, but would increase the price of the car much to the buyer. Because of this, was soon discarded.
Since 1968 it was easy to do so yield 350 hp naturally aspirated and still maintain the durability. With devices for supercharged, got to 1400 hp and up to 100 kgfm in models of competition.

The high potential of motor preparation, today many have turbo made in workshops in preparation, yielding at least 300 hp and 50 kgfm. Many normally run with 350 hp and 60 kgfm. A friend came to our 500 hp and 92 kgfm in a street car, even when used to control valves original. Today, it is around 700 hp.

The Achilles heel of this engine is the head of low flow and efficiency. Surely, the 3.0 is much better. 3.0 There are many preparations here due to the high cost of spare parts, while for the 4.1 parts are in preparation since the 60s, from the U.S.. We know that in Europe the 3.0 was the 420 hp to 9200 rpm in the DTM, and this is totally respectable, since the 4.1 is not suitable for very high speed.

Here there were some complaints to the 3.0 engine for the lack of torque at low rpm, and in the case of 2.0, the engine has low torque for the weight of the car. The Brazilian consumer prefers a good level of torque at low rpm, even if it adversely affects its operation at high rpm. Even as the surface of our country has many ups and downs. The topography of brazil is so bad, that the Omega 6 cylinders received an anti torsion bar structure, which never happened in Europe. You should have seen her picture in the engine of my car.
2.2 The engine came to replace the 2.0, retained the power, but increased from 17.3 to 20.1 kgfm, which changed the very driveability.

We had the version 2.0 for ethanol, which has 130 hp. MPFI engine was the first in the world with ethanol. Unfortunately, few units were manufactured between 1993 and 1995.

The mechanics has always been very robust and reliable, and we know it is very similar to the Omega B, which you have. The big problem we face is that the Brazilian consumer is not in the habit of doing preventive maintenance, then the car just spoiled and repair is done so wrong and spending as little as possible, often by replacing damaged parts used parts.
Today there are already several cars and more modern technology than the Omega, but few offer the same pleasure to drive. Who walks at least once with the Omega, even if a passenger, never forget the experience.

Correcting: we DON'T have many prepared 3.0.

We have some problems with the gearbox 4L-30E, which we know is the same as the BMW 325. Tend to issue, probably due to our climate, and it was found that the BMW has the hydraulic oil cooling, something that we do not have in Omega. There are shops that install a radiator for the oil, but the temperature seems does not drop enough. Unfortunately, we do not know anyone who has an Omega with automatic transmission since 0 km for whether the gearbox is problematic or is lack of preventive maintenance.
I believe that by missing or incorrect maintenance.
As already reported, the Brazilian people do not usually do preventive maintenance, not change the engine oil and try to save every penny it can, even if it becomes detrimental in the future. Then the car damage and blame the car, saying he is bad.
Someone knows something about that transmission?

I lost consciousness when I hear too!
Aspirated or turbo, the 4.1 engine has a wonderful symphony!
