Omega - No toys but nice big engine !!
« on: 15 April 2009, 20:03:13 »

Hi all.

Gotten really fed up with my Omega in last few days, its been the most troublesome little %$& car I've owned in all my time.
If you see my other threads, you'll know whats happened - Anyway thats another story.

What I'd like to know is;

Did Vauxhall ever make an Omega model that was very basic spec, but had the V6 motor & autobox fitted to it ?. Though one which was sold to the public and not an ex plod one ?.

I've got at the moment a 2.2 CD auto face lift, and whilst it's nice, I've had no end of problems that I've had to correct - new owner probably say its a really reliable when it's no longer mine !!.

I'm not giving up just yet on the Omega, as I really do like them, and don't want to give up owning one, but I've decided to get one that has the V6 auto, but doesn't have the toys fitted, like no climate control (basic heater i.e. like your Mk3/4 astras), no computer, etc.

I've even thought of buying a little run around to use, then get a base model lesser engine model that suits my needs regards spec, but then get a written off V6 auto, and transplant the engine (and everything else needed) into it.
Yes I know a lot of work, but sometimes if you want something exactly how you want it, you have to be prepared to put in the work to get the rewards.

Yes I know there's the side to it like, it'll be more to insure and have to be through specialist insurance, etc etc.
But I'm one of those people that wants to be on their deathbed (hoping it ain't just quite yet  :y  )  saying, hey I did this... that.. and the other. Not one of those; I wish I'd of tried.....
TO LATE, YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE (mr death shouts in your ear) !!!!!!!!!   :o  .

Anyone know if there was such a basic spec V6 auto model for the public (in case you've forgotten the question !). And if the numbers sold were low or reasonable chance of getting one in today's market ?.

Thanks.

I think (if can remember your question) there was a 2.5 V6 GLS model and a 2.6 V6 CD model, these appear to be the lower spec models

I have a GLS V6.  Auto box.  Sport and snow mode.  Luccy windows, front only.  Came with Radio cassette.  Now CD Radio.  Non leather, just electric height adjuster.  No Fuel computer, no Cruise.  But has projector headlighs and have the 3 position level on them.  Other luxory is Dimming interior lights and central locking. :y :y

I have a GLS 12V.  Automatic.  Sport and snow mode (which still work).  Electric font windows.  Radio cassette player.  Cloth interior, just electric height adjuster.  No Fuel computer, no Cruise.  Has dimming interior lights and central locking (which does not work on a rear passenger door), also has sun roof.

There is loads of space in the engine bay but would have loved an AC and rear electric windows

Hi all.

Thanks for relying.

V6 GLS auto looks the way to go.

Anyone know of any expensive issues that are common that I should look out for on these models.
And have any advise on what sensible sort of price I should expect to pay for a Saloon version ?.

Cheers  :)

Yeah, replacing the tyres if you turn sport mode on and traction control off and have lead feet.

 ;D  ;D

Thanks Skruntie, guessed about the 'lead feet' issue !.

Or in my case it'll be lead hands / arms, as Disabled driver with hand controls !!.  :P .

Not all disable drivers are boring G-wizz or corsa driving people, some of us like to have lots of fun to  ;)  :y .

All got to do now is get rid of my 2.2 Face lift now  ::)

My appologies matey, I had'nt realised.  But at the end of the day you are a person like the rest of us, so whats the point of having a V6 if you cant make the most of it. ::) :y :y

No apologies needed chap, you weren't to know.

Great fun though having modified cars, especially when you pull into a disabled parking space, and people come up to you in an aggressive way saying "Oi you, that's for disabled people, not lazy......"

(Start getting my sticks out of the car).... "Ah.. Sorry mate didn't realise"
Oh the joys of stories of people who open trap 1st before checking ;D ;D .

Perverse as I am, can't wait till get the V6, loud pipes on the thing and then what happens then  ;D  ;D  :y
