Apologies for lack of info - first 2 posts were done from mobile, so short and sweet.

Jimbob pretty much hit the nail on the head on the first page.

For those following the tractor saga will know that in an effort to to stop stripping sump plugs on this stupid bmw monkey metal engine, I fitted a 'quick drain' plug to it. M_DTM helicoiled it to fit.  It hung slightly lower than anything else.

Nipped out to dealer yesterday morning, during an early lunchbreak. So many knobheads driving at stupidly low speeds made me late, so I decided to come back the back way, round the country lanes.

It was going well, until I hit a bump a tad quick, and having a boat anchor for an engine meant that the front came down a bit hard.  This ripped the sump plug out.

I knew exactly what had happened (the noise of the sump plug rattling down under the chassis, and the black cloud in the mirror), so pulled it up quick (in a gravel layby as well :y) and got it switched off before the oil light could come on. Looked for sump plug, couldn't find it.

Got Mrs TheBoy to tow me home, but had to leave on road (drive has a slope, no way could we push it up).

Not wanting it left on the road, I put a spark plug in the sump, put some oil in, and moved it under its own steam on to drive.

Went to Pug dealer to get some suitable sump plugs, which I fitted earlier today.  Put yet another 6.5l of oil, and started her up.  The tractor breaths again.

I shall take out for a spin tomorrow.

Just think of it as an early oil flush/drain/change :y :D

Glad it wasnt smacked.......and it ended up ok  :y

I was suprised actually.......now that ive got mud flaps fitted (vx ones)....how easy it is to ground those over bumpy country lanes when your moving a bit.......there has to be about 6in clearance from the road.....thats a lot of movement in the suspension  :o

You want to try a Morris Ital with mud flaps then! I ended up with barely any rubber extending under the body and they'd still rub during "normal" cornering.

Mind you, it did have the most appauling suspension I have ever come across.  ;D

I had an Ital van for work.  What a heap.  Even on flat ground, throw it in to a bend, the mudflaps would rub on ground...

A truly nasty car - but it was free and I was glad of it when I was a student bum. Didn't go too bad really. 1.7 O series engine proved to be pretty much indestructible. Leaked oil like bu66ery (all over the exhaust, which meant it was a bit stinky and threw up a bit of a smoke screen until it all got hot enough to burn off properly). Gearbox whined something chronic in 2nd but was also indestructible.

Bodywork had incredible powers of self-destruction and was welded up and sprayed from an aerosol on a regular basis. 8-)

If you got too enthusiastic with the 78 BHP you'd better hope the road was straight, cos if you over cooked it straight was the only option. :o

Still, put about 50k on it with surprisingly little hassle.

Funnily enough, I was in your patch when I had it. Used to live in Elmstead Market.

I do wonder what they'd be like to drive today, in comparison to my current cars. As long as I could dump it by the side of the road and walk home when I'd had enough. I wonder how far I'd get?
