You are not obliged to stop for a non-uniformed officer. At least you weren't in mmy day!  As said before, if in doubt, get them to follow you to the nearest police station.

if Ive understood that last bit that would have meant getting out of the car to explain what my intentions were ,i didn't want to do that i didn't think it was safe .If I'd have just driven off they would have assumed i was running ( now i know they were legit bobbies) they would have given chase then its a whole new ball game . i think i did the right thing by ringing the police and playing the waiting game .It seems to me the officers in the car had plenty of time to identify themselves , all they wanted was a chase ,they thought that I'd be spooked and run

In a past life I used to carry a card with the words, "I will not open my vehicle. Please follow me to the nearest Police Station". If stopped, simply held it to the window, didn't matter whether they were uniformed or not!

I've only ever been stopped once and by a marked car, I just pulled over, dropped the window a bit and waited for them to come over

as advised, if you've any doubt that the car pulling you over is a police car, you drive to a heavily populated and well lit area, or a petrol station forecourt, or a police station

I got a tug last night and was asked if I had been drinking, I said "What makes you think I'm pi**ed officer?"

He said, "You've got a fat bird in the passenger seat"

What happens if you are disabled, are you still expected to get out of the car?

we got stopped yesterday on the way to pick up this police car i bought.   and we hadnt even got there.  i was dropping one omega off at the main dealer for a mate to do some work on there for me.  and it came up as no insurance, tax, mot etc etc...
but i had trade plates, trade insurance etc.  then they decided to check other things as there was nothing wrong. eventualy they went and we carried on.
good use of time!
