Was passing through newcastle area on Wednesday and saw the TrafPol there on their bike...  Funny battenburg colours though - blue and pink!  seriously!  Didn't have time to get a snap but saw 4 different bikes on the A1 all sporting the same blue/pink scheme...

Anyone else seen them?   :-?

I dont live very far from there and yes they have lovely coulerd bikes. not to sure if they are cops though think there something like Vosa.
But dont hold me on that.

These bikes actually belong to CF Recovery, a breakdown service which covers the A1 Western Bypass ( and most of the tyneside area ). One of them that you may have seen is a Pan European with a large " BUMP " on the back, it is a spectacle device which fits underneath of the front wheels of a broken down car - yes a car - and tows it off the A1, usually to the Total petrol station near Swalwell for transfer to a lorry or similar. Its quite a sight seeing a motor cycle towing a car.
The previous thread was correct, Northumbria Police do not operate motorcycles any more, operational difficulties was the phrase used. They can't carry enough kit, can't transport anyone etc etc, now that wide and large load escort has been privatised the bikes are now redundant.

That was the first one I saw but it was going in the opposite direction.  Thought perhaps it was some kind of fancy matrix sign/crashbar thing initiallt, but realised the back bit was higher than the rider, or at least appeared to be.  Yup, must have been the recovery company then.  Thanks for the clarification....

The A1 Western Bypass - the road past the Metrocentre is a nightmare, the slightest incident can back the traffic up quickly for miles. The idea of the recovery bike was to get to a breakdown ASAP and clear the road. I believe, but may be wrong, that the recovery off the A1 is free, paid for by the Highways Agency, like contraflow areas, to go any further the customer has to pay. The bikes and cars are parked on a few of the North Easts bottlenecks / blackspots. As you travel South of the airport turn off on the A1, past B & Q, over the bridge look to your left and you will see a Total petrol station, if the bikes are there, go and have a look, the lads are decent and might even show you the car towing attachment, its quite a piece of engineering.

I met my cousins new boyfriend in Norn Irn a couple of years ago and he let me loose on his R1 in the wet,with a bald back tyre.That was the best cure for constipation I,ve come across.
Warning-anorak moment.....The reason its called Hayabusa is that a Hayabusa is a large japanese perigrine falcon which eats Blackbirds.The fastest road bike available before the Hayabusa was launched was......Honda Blackbird.

I test rode a brand new Busa got to be 9 years ago, I was part ex-ing my old ZZR11 but ended up getting a GSX1000R. I knew I'd end up dead on a Busa! Nearly did after a european car driver nodded off at 90 on the M40 and put me on the tarmac. Killed the bike and not me fortunately. Not even sat on a bike since :-/

Very well researched Welung 666, its quite a bit of kit. I didn't know it could shift 1600 kgs when used on a Goldwing, I've only seen the Pan Euro in Gateshead towing a clit.

A mate of mine had an early Busa,the only bloke I know who could kill A Busa engine in 9 months
I was behind him one night coming out of the Dartford tunnel,he stood it on its end in 1st gear and shot of up the m25 changing up thru the box, ended up in top gear doing xxxmph on the back wheel,I was thrashing my old gpz750 and couldnt get near him.
He took it to France and held it flat out for several miles,reading 220mph on the clock.
He has settled down a bit now though,he has an Evo 7 and a tuned zx10r

An example of a hideously complicated solution being found for a simple problem which had been easily and cheaply solved (decades) previously; whats wrong with a recovery truck or even a simple (old fashioned) 'tow-rope'......`still, tax-payers pockets are bottomless (it so it would appear).
