Yes, and agreed by those actually there as being the most realistic depiction of war generally and on Omaha Beach in particular!!  The American 1st and 29th Divisions pushed into a headlong charge onto the beach, similar to the 'over the top' suicidal moves in the Great War, and sustained 2,000 casualties by the end of the day :'( :'( :'( :'(.

This is the film that my lad started to watch years ago when he was about 5 ...... he'd really got interested in it and it must have suddenly occured to him that it was in black & white because he come to me with the remote for the telly for me to confirm that he was pressing the correct buttons for the colour!!  :y When I told him that it was made in black & white he just couldn't understand why you would!  ;)  ;)  ;)  ;)
