as a "related" engineer I need to remind that there are no oil reserves "currently" thats adequate even for half a decade..can anybody calculate yearly consumption after 50 years..

even in middle east, most rich reserves are calculated to be enough for 50 years in the current consumption and selling rate.. :-/

estimated life figures are calculated with current production rates and calculated volume..



I must note that a calculated volume of oil reserve  with initial flow- pressure drop tests  dont mean you can produce all of it with primary production techniques..  in these are also covered the values with secondary production techniques ( like carbon , polymer injection) of which are extremely expensive and long procedures..

sorry for that but I do believe non of the politicians or producer firms or any one will have the courage of turning the world upside down.. :-/

just consider the struggle in middle east ..if there is enough oil for the world for 2 decades non of the politicians would risk their a**e

Nickbat,  there are accepted standards for measurement  by the engineers  either geologist or petroelum enginners and those standards are accepted within 150 years of production .. I cant easly accept (neither others)  those methods are wrong..

all we can say for sure is - we aren't making any oil, so any we use is gone for good - whether we have 50 years or 5 wouldn't it be prudent to start conserving it, maybe? or are we so short-sighted we don't care ?
