True ! 

When reading the books I had Anthony Stewart Head in my mind as the lead.

Sir Leigh Teabing was more of an older Timothy Spall.

Audrey Tautou was too fragile for Sophie's part.

But apart from that ........

True !

Not too sure who I had in mind, but someone with more presence and sex appeal thats for sure! Tom Hanks felt like a bit of a washout!
