It has to HEINZ TOMATO, the only comfort soup in a tin.

Good!!! Keep buying the stuff!

It's amazing the volume of tomato soup that goes through the factory. I've no idea of numbers of cans, but one of the Kister wrapping machines (wraps the final pack that you see in the super market) just wraps packs of 24 at around 50 a minute day after day after day!  :y  :y  :y

Are there any Tomatoes in the soup or is it all water, thickener & E numbers?

I'm on the maintenance so know as much of the recipe as you do, but tomatoes come in huge pallet loads from all over the place.
Veg soup uses massive amounts of potatoes veg & meats etc. it gets weighed out in massive stainless tubs.  :y

Don't go for the posh tinned soups myself.  Cup-a-soup for me.  Drink gallons of it, as I try to avoid tea and coffee because of the caffeine content.

On the other hand, my home made soups are absolutely superb (souperb?).  Especially the fish soup.   :) :) :)

And now for one of life's imponderables: why has Batchelors Cream of Asparagus Cup-a-soup disappeared from the supermarket shelves?  :(

I would however be careful about the salt content of these products J.

Salt is the latest of countless thing over the years the powers that wanna be tell us not to eat...eggs, potatoes, choccy, red wine, the list is endless & will be infinate. Salt is & always has been a basic & necessary seasoning & in moderation is fine, plus it's boon to cramp sufferers & many low sodium products are readily availiable. No offence Z.
I've only ever cooked from scratch Potato & leek & Carrot & lentil but thet came out well. Clam chowder is great with fried onion, garlic, m'rooms, fish or seafood of your choice & plain boiled rice. Chicken soup is as great with fried diced chicken, m'room & par boiled cauliflower. Chuck the lot into a casserole dish, stir in some mustard, sprinkle with sliced tomatoes & cheese. Luzz it in the oven uncovered til crispy!!!
As for cold drunk straight from the can ...Mulligatawny (must've miss spelt that)...anytime!!!! :y

In pillock mode again! The chicken soup recipe involves cooked pasta at the "stir in stage". Cracking soup based pasta bake though!!!! ::)

Least of many evils, seeing as how I'm already on medication for my blood pressure.

No caffeine, 'cos I'm an insomniac.  No sugar, 'cos I'm diabetic.  No alcohol, 'cos I'm overweight.  No ciggies, 'cos they were killing me.

I'm having soooooo much fun!

None taken G  8-) 8-).  The issue of excess salt is however worthy of attention for those who suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure), renal problems, or some chronic conditions such as diabetes where the effects of such consumption are distinctly unwelcome.

The crucial term, as you rightly state is, 'in moderation' and this  of course holds true for most things in life. :y

I used to be a fitter in a factory that produced soups (amongst other foods)  We made quite a lot of varietys for all the major supermarket names.  So for quite a few years I havent really bothered with soup as I was fed up of seeing it at one point.

I have had a tin each day since Saturday, Chicken (Cream of), Oxtail and then today I have had some Heinz Lentil soup and seemed to enjoy it more than the others.

So it got me thinking, what's your fAVOUITE TINNED SOUP (Will talk about Home Made Soups in annother thread at a later date)

Mine Seem to be

Lentil and Cream of Chicken.

Followed by Minestrone and Big Game Soup (Vegtable)

You do come out with some sh!te Skruntie. You wont get near Mark's postcount, cause he'll either make his bigger or yours smaller. ;D

That sounds like the beginning of a plan...... :D :D :D

Copied from the biscuit thread

I seem to have been on the tinned soup again today.

Had bacon butties for breakfast.

Asda delivered.  So I tried some Baxters Lentil and bacon soup that I ordered, but prefer the heinz lentil.

tea rime had some heinz chicken noodle.

Nipped back at supper time and had a tin of asda cream of chicken followed by a small strawberry cheese cake.   Tongue
