im sure the majority of you have said this, but i hate getting older. granted im only 21... but still, the majority of my friends are at uni and are on easter break and all i have seen on facebook is BEACH BEACH BEACH!!! all i want to do is jpin them... but instead im stuck in work, in  an office no bigger than the average size bathroom with no windows and a drilling headache >_<

oh how i love life... seems like its "Live to Work" not "Work to Live" for me. Anyone else felling the same or is it just me?

Seriously (yep!), they may be on the beach, or say they are on the beach but they are almost certainly clocking-up student loans.  A lot of import is given to appearances but they count for little in the grand scheme of things.  Even guys troddling round in Ferraris often have bigger debts than you will ever even earn.

Find out about yourself and try to come to terms with who you are and want to be.  There's bound to be time for the beach in there if that's want you want.

P.S. I wouldn't mind your job at the moment.

haha, u can have one of them if u want... my only day off is sunday (and thats if im lucky)

i thinks its more a case i just need a holiday or something... just to get away from it all (including the 57hr weeks)

Ive thought similar before (im 22 so pretty much same age as yourself!)... i tried uni and got bored within 6 months.

End of the day look at the upsides - all the people i went to school/uni with are currently unemployed or in minimum pay jobs and dont know what to do with themselves... whilst ive been working for the past 5 years, always have a few cars on the go, have a house, getting married and just been offered another job!

You may feel like you work your ass off, but trust me, its much better to be that way and reap the rewards, than go to college/uni for a few years and still be at square 1

Im 19 in my second year at uni but still broke all the time.

Any of my mates that left school are now unemployed and cant get a job.
My mates at uni all have big student overdrafts while going on weekend p1ssups 

At least at the and of the day you have the ability to look after yourself and not relying on anyone else

wow... wish i could afford to have my own place and several cars (me and the gf aint at the stage for marriage yet) at 22

i have a full time job and a part time job... find it real hard to save money, find it too easy to spend money. Just want to have fun whilst i can before all of the house, marriage, kids etc happens. i still live with my folks, work for my dad as well as part time in the evenings at waitrose... and still dont really know what i want to do with my life (went from wanting to be an engineer in te RAF, to PC repair to Graphic design, to metal work (currently in electrical wholesale)

No easy advice to give on a web site as it depends on so many variables.

If your job offers no progression to get to where you want to be then either use it to improve qualifications for a year or two or take a gamble on something more adventurous which may not have the security.

The grass is always greener and beach beach beach is not necessarily the type of life you want even if it is an accurate picture as portrayed by friends. #If you are not academic with no interest then recognise that and move on in your own way.

If you fancy further education then go for it - maybe as part time study as mentioned above.

Welcome to the real world! It is an unfortunate fact of life that most people have to work. That said, there are upsides... You are starting on your career with a head start on your friends at Uni

If you are wanting to save money then I'd say you're going out too much... 2 jobs, living at home... I'd bet you spend more on "Fun" time than some people spend on Mortgages/Rent

"Work to live"  .. NOT live to work ... but only YOU can decide where/what you do.

I spent 38 years in the Forces and regret not a moment .. yes there were bad times.... funerals, wars, CASEVACs...  but also excellent times with mates, having fun, taking the proverbial, drinking, etc etc ... then as seniority grew so did responsibility, life changes as you change...but it is NOT just "going to happen" .. it's up to you to MAKE it happen.

Your buddies on the beach are having fun now.. but doing nothing towards their futures .. and many will come unstuck .. believe me .. I've seen it. Take control of your own life, don't compare it to others ... the grass might look greener but it is probably covered in cow shit ..

At nearly 50 years of age, i can only echo what nigel said.
In the words of a very famous person...."sieze the day" and "make every day your own"

No-one is going to give you a life, you have to make your own path and accept that there will be hardships as well as highs. you sound a sensible person, and witha good work ethic, so you are going the right way on the road of life, believe me!

i am 25, finished Uni couple of years ago. First year of uni was rubbish, having food nicked by the drunks in the group kitchen. That soon stopped after i spiked a pizza with laxative!

Was better as soon as got own rented house with other uni mates, much more relaxed, much more home like.

Best bit of advice i can give (if you stay in uni) is make sure your final year project is the best you can do, people who did decent final year projects got the jobs, poor ones did not. I made a mobile phone application for theme parks, got me noticed a little mobile phone entertainment company after uni, got the job.

Moved on after it was bought out by americans and destroyed atmosphere.

Now at Sky, earning very good money for my age!

Currently saving for a house deposit, reckon i need 30k before i can make a serious move, got about 65% of it so far....

Huge benefits to living at home, loads of holidays, garage for car, and the bike!

Not quite had much success in the SWMBO department, but can't have it all.

All above i put down to my final year project, it got me the job out of 15 others who applied.

Some people wrongly think a uni degree is ticket to a dream job, its not. The only thing it does is get you through a paper sift!

Just think mate, how many of the people that go to uni get a job when there finished,
I know quite a few that were there and are either unemployed or have a underpaid job and the uni education is for the bulls balls.
you are one of the lucky ones that have a job.
lifes not so bad mate, you are still young and wet behind the ears,
you will have enough time for the beach and other things.

It comes with alot of hard work. I left my full time employment nearly 3 years ago because they treated me like crap and it was going nowhere, since then ive worked off my own back doing a whole range of work, from mechanical repairs, to joinery, electrical work, flooring etc.. making anywhere been £5 and £150 per hour. I dont drink/smoke, never have any nights out, very rarely order take away etc and also have a kid - sometimes its hard to get the numbers right, but we get there.

I have no qualifications under my belt (other than high school, which i didnt try at anyway) yet ive jus taken a job to work as a mechanical engineer - and the only reason i got offered it was through word of mouth and my work (and personality to a certain extent) was highly recommeded by a local garage.

Hard work will get you everywhere you need to go, and if someone doesnt give you a chance, sometimes you just have to make the opportunities for yourself and see where it all leads.
