It has nothing to do with the big society gimmick.I t ahs been happening for about 5 years. As said, Im sure a decent solicitor would take them apart if they tried to prosecute as a result of it. I dont think they do tbh,I thibk its a scare tactic for the gullible.

You should tell the BBC that, because that's what they were reporting it as being a part of earlier ;)

They would though wouldnt they, it would suit their agenda to report it in that way. ;)
It has been happening in my local village for several years.
Funny thing is, one of the blokes who takes part is a car enthusiast who has a cobra replica as part of his collection. It wakes the bloody village up when he starts it on a Sun day morning. He does it because he likes to keep his nose in with the influential people in the area, tosser. ::)

Yep, considering they already reported on it in 2007, 2009 and 2010 (based on my searches) - in fact, the article I linked to was from years ago.

Recycling at it's finest! ;D

Exactly - they reported it in 2007, before "the big society" had been dreamt up. Now they report it again - no doubt with a "big society/Tory cuts" slant to it. Privatise the barstewards - make them live in the real world.
I have also noticed that they keep banging on about " the cuts in the NHS" >:( >:(.............The NHS has been ring fenced, and index linked above inflation. What bloody cuts are they talking about ????

jesus, never give ordinary people any authority, because, as others have said, these schemes are taken up by the worst - most of us are too busy to be bothered, plus its open to abuse  :y

by ordinary, I mean thick  ;)

You mean the view that speed is the sole contributor to accidents & death rates? ;)

Thinking about it.. maybe we should all have a man with a red flag to walk in front of the car at all times ;)

well said, thats the most important issue in some peoples eyes, so asking these "speed limit fundamentalists" to police our roads is nuts  >:(

as i understand it  if the r-soles report you to the cops approx 5 times for speeding, then the cops will actively target you to catch you speeding and then AND only then can they give you points. i must admit i watched this in the news this morning before work and i had to turn the telly off or i would have needed a new one. >:(

I may lose friends on this one but I'll stick to my guns, sorry :-[

I would welcome this on my local road.  It's a 20mph with speed bumps and quite rightly so, there are 2 schools and it is 99% residential with lots of kids that still play outdoors and is fantastic to see in today's society.

The problem is that forget 30, alot of vehicles on this road including small hgvs do nearly 40!  I have seen a quad doing at least 50.  It's not as if there is no police presence here, twice daily patrols of either MOD plod or MPs.

It is just a matter of time before a young child is seriously hurt or worse, so forgive me if I dont agree with everything posted above

You are, of course, fully entitled to your opinion, howver wrong it may be which is as valid as any :y

My own view is that kids should be taught road safety, rather and pinning everything on drivers.  Additionally, no speed limit will affect the prats doing 50mph in that environment.

As there are 2 schools in the road, perhaps all cars should be banned between 8-9am and 3-4:30pm...

But how would the yummy mummys deliver their kids to school then? ::) :)
I come home from work in the mornings during the school rush hour. I have had quite a few near death experiences due to the seriously dangerous driving of the yummy mummys. Usually driving a 4x4 with a "child on board"sticker in the rear window. >:(

i agree with the road safety teaching.  it was part of my education in primary school and it should be taught today.  however the responsibility should not be entirely placed on young kids, teacher and parents either.  it is a 2-way street and requires understanding on both sides.

Andy was taught a lot about road safety, he did his cycling proficiency and like me cycled everywhere as a kid. we were active young kids who kept out of trouble-ish.  we certainly did not do anything dangerous on the road.  yet despite all this you can do nothing about a young driver doing 80 in a 60 approaching a hump-backed bridge and not watching what was ahead of him.  Now even if it was the 30 that it is now (thanks in large part to the late Gwyneth dunwoody) he may not have survived but the chances would have been better.

Do-gooders they may be but if you arent speeding what do you have to worry?

Bang on, my friend, bang on. But the current trend is to victimise drivers.

As I said earlier, you'll never stop the idiot who does 70 outside the school at letting out time....  ...these people think the rules do not apply to them.  I am partially guilty, as I believe the daft rules shouldn't apply to anyone.

So that 2 way street must include common sense as well imho...
