Stuck the Mondeo in for the MOT....

It passed....got a couple of advisories.....rear disks being low and one of the back tyres is nearing its limit....

Not bad for a 180k mile old Ford

Think I need to change the bulbs on the Shag, guess there are original. Usual tired HID symptom of seems bright enough, but no illumination.

Trouble is, I think the bumper has to come off to change fikkin bulb.

Blimey. Quick google can’t even find much detail on it, only one small video and it does show the bumper off.

There is actually an EU law that any bulb must be changeable by a reasonably capable member of the public at the side of the road using the supplied toolset within 15mins.

But Audi exploited a loophole, that many others followed, by making it a "dealer only" change, they do not have to comply.

As all XJs have HID bulbs main bulbs and LED sidelights, they can genuinely claim it is "dealer only".  Obviously, HIDs rarely fail (they just get shit with age), so its probably not deemed a biggie.

The only owner changeable bulb in the X351 XJ is the numberplate bulb.  Everything else is HID/LED, and probably fikkin' expensive.


Audi were pushing their luck a lot, as anything in the rear light cluster was claimed by Audi to be "dealer only", even though every bulb was traditional filament type, thus could blow at any time.  But what else would you expect from VAG?


Not looked, but I reckon I can get away without removing bumper...

Jag ones as TB is finding, is just 'take it to a dealer' approach.

On the upside, access to JLR's official documentation is easily available, and pretty cheap.

The documentation has really good colour coded diagrams, but very little text description, so sometimes stuff isn't overly clear immediately.

Discovered that the headlight washers aren't working. I can hear the pump.

So:
Either I need to top the washer fluid up (CBA)
or
Pipework blocked
or
Pump spins, but no sucky sucky.

Same here. I dissected the end of the pump and the impeller is spinning fine. Put low pressure air line through the pipe from pump and it held pressure so, contrary to what I posted yesterday, it would appear that I have a blockage in me pipes.

Given the symptoms (can hear pump, washers extending, but not water coming out), I reckon the nozzles are blocked.

Had a rubbish journey home, M3 brought to a halt twice to tow dead cars off the smart motorway bit.

But getting home I thought how much I'm loving the 3.2 at the moment, had my Bluetooth tunes going, stop start issues on M3 no bother or lots of red lights thanks to effortless of auto box and bags of power. Arrived home relaxed

Since sold 2.2, finally starting to really like the 3.2. 

Also now I have the Zafira, the 3.2 no longer needs a full boot so LPG is a consideration again. Just in case my car share buddy leaves.

That's most profitable one in Kingston, wife used to live down road by the phone box art work things.

Its clearly designed as an income source, rather than traffic management.

Its ok for the buses to block the jcts esp the one nr the station, i find it easier to go via hampton court bridge to the other side of the river if i need to. Council retards have blocked with road works vertully every route in or out of the town centre.

Drove her up to Serek's for a new set of brake pipes. Excellent job as always by the uncrowned king of omega repairs ...

2 1/4 hours to get there ... 3 1/2 hours to get back ..

Bought some oil to do an oil change again and ordered the oil filter which they never had in stock and also the pins/clips to change the pads etc.

Best solution is to avoid the area completely.  Its a shithole at the best of times.
