I had a 903cc Panda 4x4 it was awesome I wish I still had it😵‍💫
Sadly, a modern 1.2 Panda is not something even an Italian would desire ;D

I had a red 1.3 Fiat Uno SE which was the top of the range apart from the Uno Turbo, and being Italian it went everywhere in Italian tune up mode!  ;D

Great fun little car!  :y

Got my new soldering iron out to do the drivers side airbag wires.

Sorted the wires.

Dropped the iron. Caught it by the hot bit, betwixt thumb and middle finger. That was blitheringly stupid of me...

That can be quite warm.  Its generally recommended to hold it at the cold end.

Did you brand yourself?  ???

That could be quite handy if Mrs Gastro ever has to go to the morgue to identify you.  :y                                               ;D ;D ;D

I’d just pulled away from a set of traffic lights, when at around 30mph there was a clunk and the car started braking on its own. Well, not technically on its own, my young grandson had applied the electric parking brake. My rapid response to release it made it a non drama so no biggy on the scale of things, and luckily no one was directly behind us.
He received a stern word not to meddle with the car controls in future. I’d always wondered what would happen if the EPB was applied whilst moving, and now I know. I’m sure that neither the EPB or the auto box were best pleased about it though.  ::)

Had a heart attack over the new mokka. It's been saying there was an update ready for the (infotainment?) system since yesterday, so decided to let it install. 5%, 25%, 75%, 100%, done. Well.........do something then, go back to the main screen or something. No. It sat with the 100% update completed. No buttons worked, the car would not start. Dead, nothing. I must admit I issued a few vulgar expletives. Friday teatime, Vx don't open on a Saturday except for sales, wifey is having kittens.
Don't panic lad, there must be an answer. Disconnect the battery! Yeah, try that. So after 15 minutes with the battery disconnected, I reconnected. Hazard warning lights and screens back on, but no start. Immobiliser light on. More vulgar expletives. Give it ten minutes, do a funny dance and make a sacrifice to the gods of engine management. Yes! It starts!
Then the list started to come up on the driver information screen. Forward collison alert not working, speed limiter not working, cruise not working....spanner light on.....but it runs.
Over the next hour, going out and starting it every ten minutes or so, they disappeared one by one. Phew!

I won't be updating anything any time soon.

Seems to be a common issue with them. My wife's friend had a brand new one for a short time and hers did the same when she did the OTA updates. She phoned the dealer and they told her to lock it and leave it for an hour, but it actually took longer than that. It started after an hour but the screen was still blank. The screen occasionally flickered as well. She got fed up with it after taking it in to be checked a few times and decided to get rid. Luck of the draw I suppose.  :-\

Interesting, I'd always assumed the epb was locked out while the vehicle was moving, or at least above a certain speed. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity, so now j don't have to  :y

It didn’t lock up the rear wheels like a traditional handbrake, it just started slowing down as if braking.  :y

The type that operate the caliper will do this. Applying the EPB when the brakes are hot can lead to roll away as they cool.

The drum type are less prone to this as they are effectively tightened as the drum cools.

Trouble is they're more expensive due to the extra parts involved so VAG only fit the caliper based system

Which actually begs the question of how they are tested during the MOT, as a traditional handbrake is tested on moving rollers.  :-\

Sons Honda Civic has a similar handbrake system and always presents a problem at MOT time.
A stupid arrangement which should never have got further than the drawing board.

Most EPBs will apply rear brakes fairly hard, but not enough to lock - they have to apply brakes as a requirement to meet local rules.  Obviously, you don't want to lock up rears at 30mph in an emergency...   ...its generally faster to stop with medium handbrake pressure than fully locked up - no need to ask how I know that ;D

Most cars will make a lot of warning noises if you do pull on the EPB when in motion.  And most I've driven require the switch to be held in the apply position, and will immediately release when the switch is release when applied with car moving, being a different way of working than when the car is at standstill.

As DG suggests, a disc based handbrake is less snatchy than a drum based one, one of the reasons, along with simplicity, most cars with EPB use discs.

For DG's benefit, the EPB on both my cars will periodically reapply the EPB several times for an hour after parking, to overcome the cooling shrinkage.
