Live between St Austell and Newquay. It has definately got it's disadvantages, e.g. miles to the nearest anything

Nearest city is Plymouth at about 50 miles. Nearest multiplex cinema is in Plymouth, nearest IKEA is in Bristol. But it has got loads of advantages like low crime, clean air, not many speed cameras, beautiful beaches. My daughter can go to the park with her school friends and we are not scared to death that she won't come back. In fact, she can have the childhood that we did.
Must admit that I was born in London, well Middlesex, well Perrivale to be precise. My Grandmother still lives in London but it is such a hole, IMHO, that I just won't go back.
The last time I went there was a couple of years ago. Took my daughter who was about 7 at the time and was amazed that the majority of people were not of British origin. In fact, I would go so far as to say that a white face was a surprising sight. Now, I'm not saying that some ethnic diversity is a bad thing, we have people from Devon
and Cornwall here and there is even one fella from Somerset although noone talks to him, but for to feel like a foreigner in one's own capital city says to me that we have got the balance wrong. There are a number of people that I work with who have never been to that London and have no desire to do so.
Add to that the nonsense that I see with congestion charging, emission zones, Millennium Domes, Olympic Stadia and so on and so on and I am glad that I live in a part of the country where you can still be proud to be British and not be afraid to speak your mind for fear of upsetting some ethnic minority who are now the ethnic majority. I reckon that some of the scots guys will know what I mean.
Ooh errr. Rant over
