Exhausting - GLS DTi !
« on: 04 February 2007, 12:34:53 »

Never knew this site existed until  today. Yesterday - i started looking for an exhaust for my 2002 diesel Omega. Every exhaust place i go into tells me they dont list a 2172cc version. One internet search later and here i am.... it's an Omega community. [I thought i was alone!  ;D]

It's done 98K miles without any problems - and is just brilliant.....but it wont be taking me to work tomorrow or next week unless i get it sorted. :'(
Is this a rare car I'm driving? - or should i be calling it / asking for something else?

Welcome to the site :)

The 2.2DTi isn't that common, certainly not as common as the earlier Omega diesel (2.5 straight six supplied by BMW).  As it is quite rare (and the fact that many are still running fine on their original GM exhaust), many of the pattern parts exhaust makers haven't made any yet.

They are, however, on trade club :D

Centre pipes for 2.2DTi is same as for 2.5TD (£62 + VAT TC), tail piece is different, and around £58 - £72 +VAT TC depending on model/year.  At these prices, if you can get Trade Club prices, I would go for these genuine GM parts...

New Collier where abouts are you based?

Some members here have access to trade club cards and they can be loaned!

You could also join the autobahnstormers which costs £20, you get a membership card that gives you trade prices at Vauxhall.

In sourcing your exhaust, please, please, please fit GM stuff. Do NOT go to ATS / KwikFit and such like they fit pattern parts and they sound like crap. They are also use a lot thinner metal than the GM and will barley last 2 years.

I fitted GM zorst on my 2.2 petrol, the original one did 6 years 95k miles.

Mine cost £220 fitted cat back, zorst at GM trade, local bod to fit  :y

For interest, how many MPG do you get out of that diesel, and what does it go like?

Tunnie [and all]
thanks for the advice - I will go for the GM parts. I dont have a trade card.
I am based in Bolton - but travel about a bit. [This afternoon - not so far ..... Blackpool]
What are the 'autobahnstormers'? - it's a good name. I think i am one already - if plying up and down the motorway network afap counts. And joining would give me access to a trade card?

JamesCD....
MPG - not done proper figures recently - but economy is really good. [An easy 600+ per fill -  working out around 10p per mile when diesel is 88/90p] When this exhaust trouble is over I will clock it again.
and it shifts - and always has done. Surprisingly nimble for a big diesel, at low speeds - but it really comes into its own on the motorway. The longer i have had this car the more i like it....just sometimes wish it was an estate
