Arch rubbing
« on: 30 September 2006, 23:57:05 »

Hello all,

New to Omega ownership - only just picked mine up last week, a good condition R reg 2 litre GLS estate with 65k on the clock for £950 - seemed like a god price to me!

Anyway, I've noticed that the front tyres scrub on the arches - just the driver's side when I'm in the car on my own (what can I say, I'm a fattie!) but both arches when the car is 4 or 5 up. The tyres are 205/60/15 which I believe is slightly lower profile than standard, and the shocks appear to be OK (have done the bounce-test and the car returns to rest position very quickly). The scrubbing happens both on corners and driving straight on bumpy roads. Any suggestions on the likely cause? Knackered springs maybe?

Any help much appreciated :-)

Possibly worn wishbone bushes causing the wheel to move back within the arch......

even so, the wheel should go inside the arch, not catch on it...

They are original wheels, and as far as I can tell, it's not been lowered.

It does seem to pitch and roll quite a lot when cornering, which is what made me think the springs may have seen better times.

If the tyre is rubbing against the rear of the arch, ie were the mud flap is attached - snap !
Checked the lower wishbones bushes but all seems ok, tyre wear is even, putting the car on a ramp tomorrow, something must be wrong.

Would this happen if someone had fitted wheel spacers?

It's possible, but in my case it happened on old, and as of last week new disc's, no spacer's fittied.
I fear bigger problems.
