Knock Senser &  cranckshaft Senser

 When I did an oil and filter change today I noticed a knock senser hanging by the side of  the filter. I've only had my meega a few weeks and it runs like a dream. Do I leave well alone or did I ought to fit it to the block as it should be. D'ont want to spoil performance. V6 2.5 :-/ :-[

If it is the knock sensor.....hanging loose.....i'll be amazed if its not affecting performance....im not an expert.....just a god  ;D ...but if i remember correctly....the ecu keeps advancing timing until it detects a 'knock' then retards it abit.....so if its hanging off....timing must be well off  :o

The the knock sensor is not connected, you will get an engine management on.  If it is not attached to block, the performance will be impeeded significantly.

Which side is it?

Ah, just reread the post, sounds like cranksensor. Presumably somebody has replaced it, but left old one just hanging....

Thanks for your info guys really appreciated. I've just read "Marks DTM calib"article about the Knock Sensor on the Tech Info page which I should have done earlier, I'm learning loads! :y . I'm gonna have another look under there tmorrer.  ::) If that's right what "The Boy" suggest's I'll leave well alone ( :question) Thanks again .

If your EML lights up when you turn the ignition on and goes out when you start the engine, please leave it alone. You'll only end up trying to figure out what someone else has done in the past.

If its possible to trace where the old cable goes and whether its connected I would be tempted to try to remove it if its not fully visible where it goes leave it as STM0123 says.

Obviously if you do decide to trace it make sure the engine is cold as I believe the cable runs near the exhaust.

Just my tuppence worth. :)
