Those clutch switches are about £15 and in short supply anywhere other than a dealer. I'm sure someone will be very grateful for it.

Yup.

If a manual, you also need a clutch pedal switch as well as the brake pedal one, or arrange to jumper the connections out.

Cheers for that, this is one thing I maybe attempting to fit after xmas :y

There certainly seems alot involved if fitting to a manual.
Only the extra clutch switch, thats the only difference... :)

Where abouts is the clutch switch located just out of interest.

I am looking to do a few small upgrades next year as my car is going into retirement so to speak, no longer will be using for commuting to work.

These retail for £23 from Vx so don't bin it as someone here is always looking to add cruise - also care re brake/clutch swich 'mushroom',  They work on a ratchet system so if it doesn't work first time check them out as they may think the pedal has been depressed and this will turn the cruise off. :y

OK got to tackle the cruise control here are the images

Can you see the 2 threads sticking out underneath the Expansion tank ?, there is a 3rd one hidden by the thin rubber pipe

Here is the plug strapped to the off side strut

Here is the unit bolted in as you can see there are only 1 lug on this side with two on the other. I will see how it goes might drill a hole and bolt up the spare but the installation is very solid  :)

On the right is the cruise control cable with the oblong shaped clip. if you look very carefully at the accellerator cable housing you can see the bottom of the oblong slot where the cable goes. the final part is to unclip the throttle cable ball socket, slide the cruise control cable on fit a circlip and refit the ball socket

Turning to the inside remove the wheel and surround, remove the lefthand lever and swap for the curise control version

easy peasy well not quite, as a footnote. I can't get the bleeding thing to work !!
Connections double checked but no go ...
Studying the Haynes manual in the wiring diagrams for both the early and late models they both list a cruise control relay K14 .
Does any one know where this relay is located ?

Regards
Mike

errr you don't need to take the steering wheel off.

The loom should have already been inplace, just a case of taking the cowling off, and replacing the stalk?

I didn't see any mention of a brake switch. You need that to be closed before it will operate.

Hmmm, bit drastic removing the wheel....

As said, did you fit brake switch?  I see its an auto, so no clutch switch required.

Also, did the stalk have 4 wires going to 4 pin plug, or 2 wires?

On the plastic cowl there are 2 philips screws with caps that butt up to the wheel. when you remove the three screws underneath the cowl it was still fixed at these screws I tried to 'ease' them apart but there was a cracking sound. after you remove the wheel you see the two caps and when you remove the 2 phillips screws the cowls fall apart.

Look in the Haynes manual 3510 section 12.4 'Switches - removal and refitting'  image 4.4b (top of the page) shows the screws.

Brake switch yes I think you have pointed my obvious mistake   ::) I will have a look tomorrow

Cheers

Looking at the job in retrospect yes turn the wheel to remove the screws but as this was a new car (for me anyway) the wheel came off for a good clean Previous owner was smoking roll ups and had very filth hands !, quick scrub in the kitchen sink (sshh don't tell the missus) and she is as good as new  :)

Your problem is the actuator cable. They're different on the 2.5, 3.0 and 2.0.

You can probably get away with interchanging a 2.5 and 3.0 because they're both quite short. The 2.0 cable is a bit longer (I think). Unfortunately the cruise cables cost abou £50 from a dealer!
