Upgrading LPG system
« on: 06 February 2007, 15:28:27 »

I've already got a professionally installed single-point LPG system in my Omega 3.0.

How easy is it to upgrade to a multipoint SGI system? Would it cost a lot considering the tank and fuel lines are already in?

What parts would I need and can it be done DIY?  ::)

It can be done depending on what is currently fitted.

DIY is possible.

What is on the car currently, what method of cutting the petrol injectors in used?

You will need to fully list what is on it

I suppose you would save about £100 in parts possibly more - depends what can be reused.

Anywhere from £600 to £800 in bits

I was hoping it would be less than that  :-/

I'm not sure what system I have to be honest, there wasn't any documentation or anything for it that came with the car.

I've got pictures of the parts that can be seen, but I doubt that will help  ::)

If it runs well on gas mate and is a pre-facelift, It may not be economical to upgrade the LPG if it's working well.

It doesn't run on gas mate. It just cuts out.

Does it run OK on petrol?

It would probs be easlier to service and repair it, than change the LPG kit still...

It runs perfectly on petrol. I was told by a LPG 'specialist' that my car will never ever run on the system I have. I thought that was a bit harsh, but there you go.

A lad I know (an LPG installer) has told me to get another set of air intakes and he'll run both mixers off the fuel line with the stepper motor in it instead of two separate ones like it is now. And he's going to put the mixers right in front of the throttle body instead.

I'm just not very confident that it's ever going to work to be honest.

Whatever happens, I thought it needed to be in front of the throttle body to work??

OMVL by the look of it

Where is the gas injector?

Can you find the ECU or any other parts?

I haven't be able to find the ECU, it must be behind the dashboard somewhere. What's the gas injector look like? I thought this system just uses the mixers in the air intakes?

I thought it was SPI but now it is a mixer system.

OK entire front end needs replacing except possibly the evaporator.

Look for scrap cars with SGI or bite the bullet and buy a new system.

There are some bargains on Ebay - but make sure you get a 6 kit ans 4 kits will NOT work.

Email the most popular seller and ask him how much for a front end

Ah right, sorry, yep, I meant a mixer system. I assumed a single-point was the same as a mixer, but I've realised it isn't now  :y

Hmm, so everything at the front would need changing. Sounds like it'd be expensive then  :(

Depends what is expensive to you - I am saving about £80 a month at present

If I felt like I was going to keep the car for a while, they I might be willing to spend more on it, but it's not exactly given me a good impression of Omega's so far  ::)

I'll see if I can get the mixer system working cheaply for the time being. Guess I'll just have to have some a spare air box ready in case it blows it up.
