Smell of oil
« on: 23 March 2007, 08:49:52 »

For the second time in 2 days I have smelt oil whilst driving.

I guess one of the cam covers has let go for some reason - though breathers are clear.

If its passenger side, I have never done it, as I always need a spare pair of hands to do that side.

If its drivers side, it was because I used green snot, as that was what the dealer said I needed (and it was before I knew better).

I shall have a look at lunchtime.

If you need a spare pair of hands, count me in.

Unlucky TB - I've only just shifted that smell after cleaning off what I could see after doing the covers.  Hope its not too bad.. Could be something else I guess, but this would be the usual suspect..

Looks like passenger side  :(

Seems to be coming from the bolts area, though possibly coming from gasjet itself, hard to tell. Certainly oily around the tops of the cam covers....

I may have to get it done before then, based on the fact I am busy next Saturday, and it is very wet on the top of my covers  :'(

I think I gave my last seal away, so must get one anyway.

Though, tbh, it looks as if it is coming from the bolts....

Easy enough to change as long as you remove the wiring loom from its tray.....

Just had another look (as M_DTM got me thinking), and yes, there is oil around the filler base. Its always possible I spilt some last time I changed the oil, but I normally have kitchen roll all around filler if I don't use a funnel...

However, also seems to be oily around middle bolt over inlet cam...
