« on: 15 July 2007, 16:19:00 »

hi when the car is cold the box wont change up until about 3.500 rpm but after it
changes its ok and now sometimes when i select reverse nothing happens for about 20 seconds
does it need a service or a new selector switch.

Cheers Pete

The gearcahnge when cold is ok.

The reverse isn't - does the LED by R light up straight away?

Replace ATF as a matter of course then....  ....if that don't cure it, a replacement box may be needed.

So much for these boxes being "sealed for life" and "bulletproof".
I've seen too many fail recently (not counting my AR25)..

Depends on your definition of 'life' - GM may only consider life to be 100k, who knows?

Not yet... it's been faultless so far, and i've been ragging it.

But you and I both know it will fail.

Hopefully though, it will last long enough, for me to get the Veccy mobile.!

 Hi,
I had the same problem on a Granada Scorpio regards taking time to engage reverse when cold but fine when warmed up, so rang an independant autobox repairer and straight away he said "low fluid".

Turns out he was bang-on, topped it up, PERFECT!!!

   Hope this helps,
                         Pete :y.

Agreed, low fluid, changed mine t'other week, MarkDTM on here, suggested not to replace the filter, but, to clean it out, I used white spirit... the sh1te did just come out, it was almost white again after...  Mark also suggests NOT using the propper gaskets to put the sumps back on, but some Locktite compound,  personally I used the gaskets...  really smoothe changes now...  gotta be your first port of call, easy if using a pit,  possible with a struggle if not...  An autobox garage will probably do this for a respectible amount if you're not keen......  ASLO  DEXRON III (THREE) ONLY..
