Hi all,

Long story, cut short.... old man hits my car, dents wing, slightly cracks lens glass on HID headlight (on the far right near to the indicator so not on the actual front part that is lit). I should be covered by this other guys insurance for a new headlight BUT just in case I need some advice -  as I've noticed that the actual beam has lowered.

In other words, how do I adjust the beam back up so that it illuminates the road as it is currently pointing to around 4 foot in front of the car.

idiot guides are good.

i would say the auto adjuster has come off in impact and poss the manual adjuster has broken as well

I agree with M M as for repair or adjustment that is almost impossible ,you could pull the cover off and see if the bulb has been knocked out of the holder,also see if you can move the holder if you can it's as good as fubard.

Not completely true, if its the manual adjuster thats broke then they are replacable...if you can find somewhere to get the replacement bit from...

I have a replacement lens if you need one though...

Thanks chaps, will have a looksee in the morning and fingers crossed it won't be fubar.

On a side note it looks as if the car will be going in to the stealers to get the work done next week or the week after. If they don't want to pay for the work to be done (£1300 quids worth) then I'll see what settlement they offer and then go part hunting.

Is changing the lens an easy(ish) job? If not there are replacement headlight units on fleabay for around £60 (that's without the motors etc)

easy i have change both my headlights.

you need to remove the grill on a prefacelift to get the light out.
If its their fault surely they must pay for all the repairs. i can see the damage t the light internally defo being caused be the crash they are delicate inside. lots of plastic which when old becomes very brittle.

Try to get a cash settlement from the insurance based on estimates provided. You'll do the repairs yourself for a fraction of the repairer's figure, and have some lolly to spend on other goodies.
I got a cash settlement of £1200 to repair a dented tailgate on my 2.0l estate, and had the work done by a local independent, to the highest standard, for £150. Very satisfying.

Hey pauly, Be careful if you are thinking of buying a headlight from ebay a lot of them are NOT made for UK cars the beam pattern is the wrong way round. It would be be better to buy a genuine Vx one if they are paying, they cost around £160 without T/C.
