...are you saying that there is a factory fit "option" which I could get hold of that would lower (30mm) and stiffen my car Elite and would still retain the self-levelling?

yup  :)  :y

From what i remember, it was just the springs which lowered the car, not the shocks  :-/

I always found the MV6 spot on for handling, whats the reason for self leveling?

Do you do a lot of towing?

I thought that just changing the springs on a self levelling Elite doesn't have much effect because the suspension just tries to "re-level" itself? :-/

No I don't ever tow anything, is that all the self levelling is good for? I do take a trundle up to Scotland with a family of 4 and all the stuff for a couple of weeks though; wouldn't that help for that too?

I thought it was springs that lower pre faclift and shocks which lowered the facelift :-/

Mine's a facelift Elite, does that help?

I want to lower it, but not much, and I would prefer to keep the self levelling.

Shocks (only) that lower prefacelift MV6, and shocks/springs on facelift.  Never seen sports suspension with levelling on saloons.

Thanks TB, and is the facelift MV6 sports suspension any lower or just stiffer?

15mm lower apparently, but still no mention of the self-levelling...

I'll keep looking.

The only self levelling you're likely to find for yours is std elite stuff.

why this big drive to self levelling???

MV6 setup is far, far better.

Self Levelling is only really good for towing, when you have a large weight on the back and need to keep the back level.

Or the boot is fully loaded all the time.

If you never load the back up, there is no point....

It's not a huge issue, it is just that if I could keep that feature I would prefer to, that's all. It's a big car with a cavernous boot, I'm bound to load it up once in a while.

I've had my boot loaded up with loads of weight, including a diesel generator, and had 1700 kg on tow behind my MV6 with no problems with levelling. I think the sports suspension is reasonably stiff so doesn't "give" too much even though it starts off lower.

Ditching the self levelling (was it even available with sports suspension?) is one less thing to go wrong too.

OK I'm sold :y

What's the best option?

  • An aftermarket kit
  • A Steinmetz kit for £650 (lowers by 30mm)
  • MV6 suspension from a scrap yard (Apparently lowers by 15mm)
  • MV6 struts and springs from a Vx Steatlers (with Trade card)

How do I make sure I don't get uneven tyre wear?

Visit Wheels-InMotion (http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk) in Chesham!

Booked in on the 17th of May at 09:00 :y

I'll start there with a full set up as it is right now and take their advice on the tolerances left in the car.

If I then want to lower it and change the rear tyres for 265x30x19 later in the Summer they can tell me whether they can reset the car camber without compromising tyres wear and/or creating an understeer problem.

Thanks for the advice folks :y
