No offence mate, but most here would rather have reduced noise, not more. Cheap crappy after market exhausts and cats have generated loads of complaints from us abouts noise. Drives you mad after not very long at all. It sounds to me like you've got the original setup so my advice is look after it and don't mess with it. There's nothing cool about a chaved up Mig (or a chaved up Corsa for that matter)

IMO people who consider anyone who drives a loud car to be chav is a seriously narrow minded individual who has to learn how to have their own opinion and not have there life led by the media. in other words get a life!  :y

Have you ever heard the saying "if its to loud your too old"?   ::)

My omega is as loud as all hell! (im not a "chav" just not a OAP either!) the previous owner has completely removed the bottom part of the airbox and cable tied / taped the filter on, never caused me any problems and makes changing the filter really easy lol.

On idle and light throttle there isnt much diffrence, but when the pedal hits the floor it roars like a beast!

And yes i am more than aware that it will suck in warm air when the car is standing still, but how often do you need full power from a standstill? it will lose some low end torque but gain some high end horses, which suits my driving style.

You are missing my point. I just don't understand why anyone would want to mod a car simply to make it loud. I see it all the time but mostly on gutless Corsas and Saxos. What is that person really trying to say? Is it "Hey look at me everyone, I'm a  ........." or is it "Hey everyone, I don't care about you, I'm going to be a nuisance" or is it something else?

I've always enjoyed driving cars hard and I'm far from being old enough for a bus pass. Deliberately moding any car (especially a Mig) just to make it louder seems a reduculous thing to do IMHO

Totally agree there if it's just to make it louder without any performance gains.   :y

Agreed.
I like my elite quiet.
My TR4A has a 4 into 2 gas flowed manifold going into 2 big bore pipes with straight through boxes at the rear - it's quick for a 4A (mod'd engine / induction) but mod'd for power & u should hear the exhaust note!!! Noisy ;)
By the way i get free prescriptions and am eligible for a bus pass.

as the v6 vaux engine is so loud with a K&N according to my local police it falls inline with the police reform acts Section 59 Anti Social use of a vehicle so be careful!!!

This has turned out to quite an entertaining thread!
I simply drive with the windows down when i want to hear more from the V6 - purely for primal testestronal reasons : ;D

Hate to think what they think of my Westfield with a pair of these poking through a hole in the bonnet.

Forget the induction side of things. Try starting your V6 with just the down pipes on it! That is a noise that could wake the dead!!!
When I put the stainless exhaust on mine I couldn't help but start it to see what it sounded like!
Some how I don't think you'd be able to drive it far before either H21's mates stopped you (he's been quiet lately! :-/) or your ears bled!!  :o  :y  :y  :y

Not wanting to bring the thread back to earth, but I put a Pipercross panel filter on my Veccy and carried out the "3 pipe mod" and there was a "small" increase in induction noise and it felt like there was more torque. Maybe that ws a figment of my imagination though.

Now I am an Omega owner (2.5V6) I love the fact that the car is almost silent and very smooth. I have to look at the rev counter to make sure I haven't stalled it. However, when I put my foot down, it wakes up and makes a great sound that, IMO, is only bettered by the BMW straight six, or a V8.

If I were to look at modding my induction, I would look at a Pipercross or K&N panel filter that just replaces the standard one.

That is however only my opinion and in now way be-littles anything that anyone else would do.

Thanks
Mike

Just to put things in perspective here's my two pence worth.

I think there's nothing better than to hear a well tuned engine or a V6/V8 gurgling away or producing a great sound track at high revs but there has to be control as to how much noise they produce. Can you imagine what it would be like to have thousands of cars howling away if you lived anywhere near a road. So, have a car that makes a great sound but within reason.

On the other hand, in motor racing at a proper racing cicuit, the louder the better. It's one of the reasons I love motorsport so much. :y

As said, it's all about getting things into perspective. :y

Apart from the noise restrictions you have on track now i only just get on Oulton park with 105db at 3/4 your red line its always a nervous moment waiting to see whether the guy testing you is alright or not.  :-/

tbh, with the omega, replacing the original filter with something else virtually always results in lower performance across the range.  The standard filter on these (esp genuine) is very good.

As said, if people want to replace for cones etc for noise (within reason), thats a different matter, and each to their own.

on a serious note vauxhall cars are renound for screwing the sensors if you fit a kn and alike
unlike my last car please dont laugh (a mondeo v6) that had a kn71i on it ,the only difference was 2bhp so wouldnt feel any improvement,
pain in the arse in the summer because of heat soak even with cold air feed, far to loud on a motorway, but good in town
so my own opinion is fit a panel filter get the bhp without all the trouble

Yeah that was new to me as i have never worked on a Vauxhall with standard induction before. From what i have learned on here that is caused by oiled filters, so to avoid any issues, dont buy an oiled filter (such as K&N panal filer) personally from experiance, i would recommend the pipercross foam filter.

i want my v6 to be as quiet as possible, that way you know when there is a prob as the noise changes from a sweet hum to a ratle and unhopefully a clunk. :y

If you really wanted it quieter up front, you could try insulating the inside of the airbox with sound deading material (avaliable from any audio retailer or from B&Q in the plumbing department for half the price). Ive never tried it on a road car but seen it done on competition cars to get the induction noise level down.
[/highlight]

idea is ok but then its not the engine thats quiet but an enhancement? that has done it, worth considering tho on a noisy engine, what i mean is to be as quiet and mechanically made and looked after, so i know its running perfect as the factory intended :y
