Custom Exhaust
« on: 12 June 2008, 09:58:01 »

Hello  :)

I'm thinking of going for an custom exhaust on my Omega.

Mainly because the price for a non-genuine exhaust system (Cat-Back) would be about £250 and wont be as good as the stock VX system.

I have been quoted £320 for a full cat back, stainless system for my car.

To me, this seems the better option as I plan on keeping the car.

I dont want it loud thats not the reason, the lifetime warranty and custom element is what I want.

Does anyone have a custom exhaust on their Omega and want to share some pictures so I know what looks good and what doesnt on the back of the Omega?

Most on here would recommend an original Vx system on trade club which will be around the £250 mark.  Just needs fitting then.   That should last you for a long time (longer than the car maybe..)

£250 + an hours labour will nudge £300 and thats only mild steel.

Plus there is the transporting it and getting it delivered etc.

So does anyone here have a custom one?

I ordered mine from Jetex, cat back system delivered in a couple of working days and about £500 including VAT. Partly because the old system was rotten, partly because I wanted one that would last forever and partly because I wanted to beef up the car's looks a bit. It's definitely louder than the original but not excessive.

And here's what came off....

The bolts holding the midpipes to the downpipes are notoriously difficult to shift. After I'd loosened one successfully and snapped another, I took the car to a tyre place and got them to heat up the bolts and shift them with molegrips. Not something I could have done myself! I was there for tracking and hadn't thought to sling the new exhaust in and get them to do it while it was up in the air, so I just got them to put new bolts in the old system, making it easy for me to do the swap when I got home.

Edit: just realised yours is a 2.0 so some of this is irrelevant to you but the pics might help you decide!

Bruce, each to his own of course, but just to clarify
£250 was for a V6 , I guess 4 pot would be more like £150- 200 ish (its one less piece).   Delivery?  collect it from the Vx dealer.

Presumably you are looking at Opel Omega B.
I don't see where you specify left or right hand drive assuming they are different?

i always have custom "powerflow" exhausts on all my cars,
you can tell the fitter how you want it to sound and he,ll make it to suit your needs,
they do this by using different size and shape boxes,
if i,m keeping mine it will be having a full system with sidepipes coming out before the rear wheels,
sounds great and great value for money too.

Be aware that a longlife exhaust as standard (i.e. that price) comes with a 2.5" or 2.25" tailpipe. If you want anything looking more standard like a pair of twin pipes that might cost you a little more.

Having said that I am booked into longlife on the 28th (twin pipes to make it look standard).

I am aware of this, you get a choice of 14 tailpipes for the price and anything else is extra.

You get these styles included for the price

What twin you getting?

Im unsure whether to go for a single oval or twin pipes

My car is a 3.2 so already has twin pipes as standard. I'm trying to make sure it looks pretty much the same when it leaves. (I think)
